?Chapter 91:
Theo’s words painted a picture of a dysfunctional Gordon family, which exined why Ellie was at odds with them.
Upon hearing that, Kaiden’s expression tightened. “What?”
Theo exined, “For Mrs. Gordon’s surgery, there are only a few of us in the country capable of performing it—my mentor, myself, and Frank. But my mentor is currently out of the country. Erick used this fact to put pressure on your wife, iming that he could enlist Frank’s help. Didn’t you know? Then why did you ask me to assist your wife?”
Kaiden’s deal with Ellie was harsh. He had almost crushed her dignity in the process.
“Time for you to go,” Kaiden coldly told Theo, effectively dismissing him.
Theo was taken aback.
Why would Kaiden react so harshly?
Kaiden instructed Bruce to look into Ellie’s interaction with Erick at the hospital.
The task was straightforward, and soon enough, Bruce reported back.
Erick had indeed tried to use Frank to intimidate Ellie, but she had stood her ground, even mocking him. The incident of Ellie seeking Theo’s help followed, which was why she hade looking for Kaiden.
Kaiden, processing this information, felt a pang of irritation. Remembering Ellie’s resilience, yet the evident sadness she had disyed while dancing by the French windows, he was unexpectedly troubled.
She had appeared so vulnerable, yet defiant, facing her challenges alone.
Lighting a cigarette, Kaiden watched the ember glow. Such feelings of unease were unfamiliar to him.
He shouldn’t feel remorseful, even if he had been unjust to Ellie. The world operated on the principle of survival of the fittest.
Yet, why was he so disturbed by this?
Since their encounter on Heart Ind, Kaiden had been staying in a small vi near his office.

When Kaiden returned to Moon Manor that day, Cayson greeted him with enthusiasm. Noticing Ellie’s absence, he inquired, “Didn’t Mrs. Thorpee back with you?”
Kaiden’s brow furrowed. “Isn’t she at home?”
Cayson remarked, “Mrs. Thorpe hasn’t been around for days, iming she’s attending to a sick rtive. I thought you were apanying her.”
Kaiden scoffed to himself. Ellie’s dedication to Demi’s grandmother was evident. With Cecelia hospitalized, why hadn’t any member of the Gordon family stepped in to take care of her?
Noticing Kaiden’s demeanor, Cayson cautiously inquired, “Is there trouble between you and Mrs. Thorpe again?”
“No,” Kaiden replied curtly, his sneer betraying his thoughts. How dare she sh with him?
Cayson’s gaze fell to the floor, confirming his suspicions.
Kaiden, usually a light sleeper, found sleep elusive that night. Visions of Ellie, appearing distraught and wronged during her visit to Heart Ind, haunted him.
She had looked so forlorn.
Restlessly, Kaiden sat up.
