Chapter 58

    ?Chapter 58:

“Mrs. Thorpe, Mr. Thorpe has returned.” The maid’s voice was steady but carried a hint of concern.

Without hesitating, Ellie buried herself deeper into her nkets, shutting her eyes tight.

The maid, receiving no reply and fearing something amiss, cracked the door open to peek inside. Seeing Ellie seemingly asleep, she closed the door gently and descended the stairs.

“Mr. Thorpe, Mrs. Thorpe appears to have fallen asleep,” she informed Kaiden.

Kaiden, removing his coat and tossing it onto the sofa, asked casually, “How has she been spending her day?”

“Mrs. Thorpe has been resting in her room all day,” the maid responded.

Kaiden nodded, a hint of approval in his gesture. It was a rare asion for her to be sopliant.

Just then, Cayson approached with a grave expression.

“Mr. Thorpe,” he began. “Madam wishes to see you and Mrs. Thorpe.”

Cayson was not just any servant; he had been brought into the household by Kaiden’s mother from her family home. The “Madam” he referred to was Kaiden’s mother, Brisa.

It was a well-guarded secret that Brisa, believed by the outside world to have passed away, was very much alive.

Kaiden’s expression darkened immediately. “How did shee to know?” he muttered.

Brisa had been battling mental instability for years, and news of Kaiden’s marriage should have been kept from her. The revtion was troubling, hinting at a breach in their carefully maintained secrecy.

“Someone intentionally disclosed your marriage to Madam within the walls of the Thorpe estate,” Cayson revealed.

The Thorpe family was unwilling to relinquish their hold on Brisa, despite her mental instability. In essence, she was their only leverage against Kaiden.

Cayson hesitated before asking, “Mr. Thorpe, about Madam…”

Lighting a cigarette, Kaiden exhaled slowly, the smoke doing little to ease the palpable tension.

“Inform her that Ellie is my wife. We will visit when she’s better,” he said firmly.

“Understood.” Cayson nodded and then asked, “Will you visit Mrs. Thorpe upstairs?”

“No, I need to leave for Gwylia immediately. Keep an eye on her for me,” Kaiden instructed, shaking his head.

    “As you wish.”

Upon hearing of Kaiden’s imminent departure, Ellie felt a wave of relief wash over her. She ventured out of her room, grateful for the chance to avoid further awkward encounters with him.

Meanwhile, she had already reached a state of tranquility when she considered the fact that the maid had witnessed the silly things she had done the night before.

To the outside world, she and Kaiden were nothing less than a married couple. Ellie reasoned that as long as their interactions remained appropriate in public, there was no cause for embarrassment.

When Ellie got the interview invite from GT Group, her knee was just beginning to heal.
