    Kaiden’s suite, located in the eastern wing of the main courtyard, was a spacious blend of traditional and modern styles, meticulously detailed.


    While Kaiden went to take care of his things, Ellie, left to her own devices, began reading a book from the shelf.


    After a few minutes, there was a knock on the door, interrupting her reading.


    Expecting Kaiden, Ellie was taken aback to see Erick at the door.


    Her already cold demeanor seemed to frost over.


    Why couldn’t Demi control her boyfriend? Erick had caused her so much trouble! Couldn’t she keep him on a leash?


    “You’re so protective of Kaiden, but do you know what kind of person he really is?” Erick insinuated. “Do you know where he went just now?”


    “Not interested,” Ellie replied, moving to close the door. Before shutting it, she added, “It’s best if you and I keep our distance to avoid misunderstandings.”


    “Wait a minute!” Erick hastily blocked the door, surprised by her abruptness.


    “He’s visiting the ashes of his brother, Leo. You know, his brother died in a fire.”


    Leo, Kaiden’s full brother, had met a tragic end.


    Erick’s smirk was unsettling. Ellie hissed, “If you don’t leave, I’ll have to call Demi to escort you out.”


    Erick pressed on, “Do you know? Kaiden is responsible for his brother’s death. He set the fire that killed Leo. And now, he has the audacity to visit his brother’s ashes!”


    Ellie, taken aback, stared at him, her eyes narrowing in surprise.


    In that moment of astonishment, her emotions were exposed. Her eyes narrowed as she processed Erick’s revtion, searching his face for any sign that he was lying.


    To her dismay, it seemed like he was telling the truth.


    Pleased with her reaction, Erick leaned against the doorframe, certain that Ellie would regret her connection to Kaiden.


    “Ellie, I’ve told you before, Kaiden is dangerous. He should have been in prison, but he avoided it by iming a mental breakdown,” Erick said. “Under that condition, his actions weren’t legally punishable.” Only those close to the Thorpe family knew this secret. It had been used to marginalize Kaiden within the family.

    Expecting Ellie to react with fear or regret, Erick was taken aback when she responded calmly, “Is that all?”


    Herposure shook him to his core. His mouth was left agape.


    “You can leave now. I am not interested in your usations against my husband.”


    Erick, frustrated and red-faced, blurted out, “Ellie, I’m telling you this because of our past. Didn’t you see how he hurt my mother? He’s violent and unstable. He’s either a serial killer or mentally ill!”


    Deep down, Ellie felt Genesis had gotten what she deserved. If Kaiden hadn’t acted, Ellie herself would have stood up to her.


    “Mr. Thorpe,” Ellie said, her tone teasing, “Your frequent attempts to speak with me make me wonder… Do you still have feelings for me?”


    “What? I still have feelings for you?! That’s nonsense!” Erick retorted with indignation. “I can have any woman I want. Youe from a modest background. Why would you think I care about you? Don’t tter yourself!”
