Chapter 16

    ?Chapter 16:

As she entered the foyer to slip into her high heels, Kaiden called out, “Cayson, have a car ready for her.”

Ellie quickly responded, “No, thank you.” She preferred to keep her distance from Kaiden.

Kaiden’s tone was icy as he replied, “Just cooperate, Mrs. Thorpe.” His words, a mix ofmand and warning, conveyed, “I don’t mistreat my wife.”

Ellie stood there, baffled. She never used him of mistreatment.

Cayson looked on, feeling responsible for Kaiden’s stern words.

Once Ellie had departed, Kaiden received a call regarding the Fashion Ceremony being hosted at their venue.

“Mr. Thorpe, there’s a reserved seat for you,” the caller informed.

“I won’t attend,” Kaiden dismissed, disinterested in such gatherings.

Then it hit him: Ellie had no jewelry for the event.

“Cayson, get some women’s clothes and essories for her.”

Cayson, understanding who it was for, asked, “How much should we prepare?”

“Enough to fill her dressing room,” Kaiden replied.

That room, however, spanned at least a hundred square meters of the house. Therefore, filling it up wasn’t an easy task.

The Fashion Ceremony, a morous event, attracted many from the entertainment and fashion industries.

Ellie, finding her seat, overheard a scornful remark.

“Demi, isn’t that the despicable woman who robbed you of twenty years of a luxurious life?”

The speaker, adorned in a bold red dress and leather boots, stood out like a pop idol. Demi, beside her, was d in Dior’stest whitece gown, her Chanel handbag and impable appearance radiating wealth.

“Dani, please.” Demi shook her head at the girl who spoke, signaling her to stop.

Dani Maynard, once a member of Demi’s girl group, remained her steadfast ally after the group disbanded. Aware of Demi’s wealthy heiress status, Dani was always quick to defend and tter her.

“Ellie, please ignore her. Dani means no offense. She’s just being protective of me,” Demi hastened to exin.

Ellie wondered, if there was no malice, why the need for ‘protection’?

Demi’s words seemed insincere, but Ellie chose not to engage further.

Yet, Demi abruptly shifted the conversation. “I’m curious, Ellie. You’ve just graduated, and given your profile, how did you manage an invite here?”

Dani added, her smile veiled with malice, “Maybe she used some underhanded means? Wouldn’t be surprised with a face like hers.”

Ellie retorted with a calm smile, “These events have strict criteria for invitations. Are you implying the organizers are unfair? Shall we inquire with them?”

Ellie, despitecking the typical qualifications and fame, had earned her ce through her academic excellence and awards in image design contests.

Demi, caught off guard by Ellie’s reply, could only offer a weak, “I was just speaking casually.” She wouldn’t dare question the organizers of the event.
