Rain was shocked speechless by Marcus’s words.
Marcus’s eyes were full of cruelty.
“Someone who used to work as a bar hostess-hard to say whose baby that really is.”
“You’re lying!” Rain screamed in breakdown. “I never did that kind of work! You’re the one who pursued me! You said you
loved me!”
“Where’s your proof?” Marcus sneered. “The chat logs only show you throwing yourself at me, and those photos-you forced
me to take those.”
“What about the apartment!”
“That’s apany benefit housing unit for temporary employee use. You thought it was a gift?” Marcus lied without batting
an eye.
Rain waspletely stunned, crying as she tried to grab his hands.
“You touched my belly, you said you loved me and the baby…”
“Enough!” Marcus shoved her away. “You crazy woman! Keep harassing me and I’ll call the cops!”
Rain staggered backward, nearly falling.
“Marcus!” I called out sharply. “Whatever happened, she’s pregnant!”
Marcus realized he’d lost control and quicklyposed himself.
“Sorry, babe. I’m just so angry. This woman’s shameless, ing to my house with these lies.”
Rain looked at me desperately, then back at Marcus.
Suddenly, she startedughing maniacally. “Ha ha ha… I get it now!”
She wasughing and crying at the same time. “Vivian Hartwell, you win. You rich people y with us poor folks like we’re
toys.”
“I haven’t yed with anyone,” I said coldly. “You chose to be the other woman.”
“Yeah, that was my choice.” Rain smiled bitterly. “I thought I’d found true love. Turns out it was all a joke.”
She touched her belly, madness shing in her eyes. “Since neither of you want this baby, then I don’t want it either!”
With that, she turned to ram herself into the wall.
Much as I hated her, I couldn’t watch a life be lost.
I rushed over to stop her. “Calm down!”
“Let me go!” Rain struggled wildly. “Let me die! Let us both die together!”
I held her tight. “Even for the baby’s sake, you can’t do this!”
Hearing the word “baby,” Rain suddenly stopped struggling.
She copsed in my arms, her voice hoarse. “The baby’s all I have left. But he doesn’t want us…”
Looking at this pitiful woman in my arms, my feelings wereplicated.
Yes, she’d done wrong, but ultimately she was a victim too.
The real viin was Marcus.
Just then, Marcus said impatiently, “Babe, don’t bother with her. Just let her go. Women like this use kids to manipte people.”
Hearing this, Rain got agitated again. “Marcus! You’re an animal! How can you treat your own child this way!”
“My child?” Marcus sneered. “What proof do you have it’s mine? Go get a paternity test!”
“Fine!” Rain said through gritted teeth. “We’ll get a paternity test! I’ll show you whether this baby is yours or not!”
I smirked internally.
Oh Rain, don’t you get it?
Even if the baby really was Marcus’s, he’d never acknowledge it.
Because acknowledging the child would mean losing everything the Hartwell family provided.
And now, with hispany on the brink of copse, he needed the Hartwells more than ever.

“Sure, let’s do it.” Marcus shrugged. “But if the test proves the baby isn’t mine, you publicly apologize to me and my wife, plus pay damages for emotional distress!”
“What if it is yours?” Rain asked.
Marcus paused, a cruel glint in his eyes. “If it really is mine, I’ll take responsibility.”
I knew he was lying.
Even if the test came back positive, he’d find a way to weasel out of it.
But I didn’t call him out, because I had a better n.

“Since you both agree to the test, let’s go tomorrow,” I said. “I’ll pay for it-we’ll use the most authoritative facility.”
