"Let''s not waste time on her, boss. If she doesn''te, we''ll just let the old woman go!" A voice suddenly cut in from the side.
The moment Melody heard that they might back out, even potentially releasing Roretha, she panicked.
If Roretha escaped and went to the police, wouldn''t that make everything worse for her?
She hurriedly answered, "Alright, I''ll be there! Send me a video of Roretha. I need to confirm that you really have her!"
The other side hung up. Soon, Melody received a video.
It was filmed in a filthy, messy factory building. Roretha''s hair was inplete disarray, her body tied up. Her aged face was covered in tears and mucus, and her mouth was sealed with ck tape. She kept making muffled sounds at the camera.
After confirming it was really her, Melody got dressed, put on a mask, and quietly slipped out of her home.
She arrived at the address they sent about forty minutester.
When she walked into the factory, she saw Roretha tied up and curled on the ground.
Three other men were there as well. They were smoking, casually ying with cold, sharp knives in their hands. They looked like desperate criminals.
When Roretha saw Melody enter, her eyes widened as she struggled desperately.
"Go ahead and check," the leader said, pointing at Roretha with his knife.
Since Melody was there, she had to make sure.
She rushed forward, tore the tape from Roretha''s mouth, and brushed the messy hair away from her face.
Roretha stared at her with hatred and fear. "So it was you! Were you trying to silence me? You''re a vicious woman, Melody!"
Melody felt guilty and scared, shrinking back slightly. However, her anger quickly took over.
"You were the one who tried to harm me first, you old woman! Don''t me me for being ruthless!" She spat.
"I saw it with my own eyes. When Nak died, you ran out of her apartment building in a panic. You were the one who caused her death! I regret not exposing you back then! You''ll die a horrible death, you evil woman!
"Nak''s family treated you so well. Aren''t you afraid that she''lle for you one night, together with her husband and child, to take revenge?"
Melody''s face turned pale, her eyes filled with fear. But she quickly forced herself to calm down.
"Shut up! I only told her out of kindness that her husband had died. She was the one who panicked and fell down the stairs. What does that have to do with me? It was just bad luck on her part! That''s right. She was never meant to have a son! If she hadn''t been pregnant, one fall wouldn''t have killed both of them. None of this is my fault!" Melody yelled.
Roretha stared at her. "You''re talking nonsense! You saw her fall down the stairs with your own eyes. She must have been crying and begging you at the time.
"If you had called for help, she would''ve survived. You ran away, didn''t you?"
In Melody''s mind, she saw Nak lying in a pool of blood, trembling as she reached out with pleading eyes. She had been in so much pain that she couldn''t even cry out.
Melody''s breathing grew rapid, and she didn''t want to think about it.
"Why should
have saved her? If she
got saved and med meter, what would happen? Also, what right do you have to criticize me? Back
then, you watched our family suffer more than once. You never helped ust
She psyched herself into thinking she''d done nothing wrong.
Nak had fallen down the stairs herself. That made it an ident.
It had been years since the incident. Why did Roretha have to return and drag her down over something trivial?
Since they were the ones who wouldn''t let her go, she wouldn''t show any mercy either.
"Why aren''t you doing anything yet? Hurry up and take care of her! Shut her up!"
With her hands shaking, Melody pped the ck tape back over Roretha''s mouth while ordering the hitmen around.
The leader stepped forward at once, holding the knife against Roretha''s neck. "Pay the remaining bnce. Once it''s in, the job is done."
Melody immediately lowered her
head and started making the transfer Just as the payment went through, a sharp, piercing police siren sounded outside the factory.
Melody froze. For a moment, she thought her nerves were ying tricks on her.
But very quickly, she realized it was real. The sirens grew louder, and shing lights were already visible outside.
"What''s going on? What is happening?" Melody screamed and turned to run.
She took two steps before realizing the entrance had already been surrounded.
She then tried to head for a window, but her legs had gone weak from fear. Before she could reach it, she stumbled and fell to the ground.
At the same time, a group of police officers rushed in.
Cold handcuffs snapped around her wrists. Two officers pulled her up and dragged her toward the exit.
She was finished. This time, it was really over.
Anneliese, however, knew nothing about this, taking in the new household.
