Chapter 629

Jonathan sat down on the couch and crossed his legs, staring coldly at the three hitmen.

"Take a look," he said, looking toward Zion.

His assistant immediately tossed a stack of investigation files in front of the three men.

Upon taking a look, their faces turned even paler.

The files were filled with detailed information about themselves. Every crime they hadmitted over the years had been documented, along with information about their family members and where they lived.

That alone was enough to get them locked up for ten to twenty years.

Moreover, it was clear that their families wouldn''t be spared if the man in front of them decided against it.

It was obvious now that they had been discovered long ago. Tonight had simply been a trap, and now, the noose had tightened around their necks.

"Who are you?" asked the leader, trembling.

He hadmitted the most crimes out of the three.

He knew they were truly finished this time, and they had provoked someone they shouldn''t have.

Jonathan didn''t even bother answering him.

"That doesn''t matter. What matters is what you n to do next," Zion said coldly. The leader gulped and clenched his fists. "What will it take for you to let us go? Zion chuckled. "You guys were attempting murder, and there''s no such thing as getting away with it. But if you do as you''re told, I can guarantee that your families won''t be dragged into this. If they run into trouble, we might even offer a little assistance."

Hearing there was no way out, all three of them went weak and copsed onto the floor.

But with the situation as it was, they had no other choice but toply.

"We''ll do whatever you say!" Finally, the leader gave in.

Hearing this, Jonathan gave Zion a small nod. "Make the arrangements for their families."

With that, he stood up and left.

The night was dark and gloomy.

Melody, however, was still awake and glued to her phone.

The hitmen she hired promised they would be acting tonight, and she even paid them a one-million deposit.

As agreed, once Roretha was dead, she would pay the remaining bnce.

Hours had gone by, and she still hadn''t heard a thing from them.

Melody paced restlessly around the room while clutching her phone. Just as she was about to lose her mind, her phone started ringing.

Her palms were slick with sweat as she hurried to pick it up.

"Did it go well?" She used a voice-changing device to disguise her voice as a gruff man''s.

"Of course." The voice on the other end delivered news that made Melody both relieved and excited.

She trembled in excitement. "She''s dead, right? Hurry up and send me a video! I''l transfer the rest of the money to you immediately!"

    It had been agreed beforehand.

Once they dealt with Roretha and sent her the video of how they handled the body for confirmation, she would pay the remaining bnce to the designated ount.

The deal would beplete, and both sides would reap the benefits.

Melody thought everything had gone smoothly, but the callerughed coldly.

"What''s the rush? We''ve already taken her out. She''s in our hands right now, but the n''s changed."

Melody''s heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?"

"We want you toe to this address and finalize the deal."

Melody shrieked, "Why are you doing this? We already agreed there was no need to meet! That was better for both of us!"

She had found these people through certain channels and never expected something like this to happen.

It was her first time doing something like this, and she began to panic.

The man sneered. "This is murder.

The risk my men and I are taking is huge. We need to know whether

you''re human or a ghost, Otherwise,

    if

    you stabus in the backerwise,

knows if we''ll end up dead? Besides, if you don''t see us handle that old woman with your own eyes, would you truly feel at ease?"

    Well, he had a point.

Melody thought about it. If these men were just pretending and hadn''t actually killed Roretha, and only sent her a fake video to trick her, then all her effort would be for nothing.

The trouble would onlye back to haunt her.

But the thought of going to meet these desperate criminals still terrified her, and the sudden change in their demand made her suspicious.

When the other party realized she was hesitating and reluctant to agree, he seemed to grow impatient.

    "We''ve already kidnapped her for

you. You and us are in the same boat now, so what are you scared of? Or were you nning to screw us over all along? I''m telling you this if you dare try anything funn we won''t spare you either. Worst case, we''ll all go down together!"
