The car was very quiet. Zane''s voice came through clearly, and Jessica heard every word even with her eyes closed.
Hershes fluttered. A bitter, self-mocking smile tugged at the corner of her dark, pale lips.
Not the type to quietly take losses?
So even though he knew she was missing, he wasn''t worried at all.
No, it wasn''t that he didn''t know how to worry. When he heard that his grandma had fallen, he had acted right away.
In the end, it was simple. Jessica had never truly mattered to him.
"She can''t talk right now. I''m hanging up," Jonathan said, then ended the call.
The car fell into silence.
At ten thousand meters in the air, Zane frowned slightly. He lowered the phone and looked at the ended call.
"What a temper," he said.
He spun the phone in his palm twice and didn''t think much of it.
Since she had been found, she had to be with Anneliese now.
Jonathan stayed glued to Anneliese. With that couple around, Jessica should be fine.
Still, before putting his phone away, he opened WhatsApp and sent Jonathan a message, ''Help me look after her,''
Jonathan tapped a quick reply, ''I only look after my own woman. Come back and take care of her yourself. If you don''t, you''ll regret it.''
Right after Jonathan sent it, the back of his seat was kicked, not lightly and not too hard.
He felt the clear pressure from Anneliese behind him. He shut off the screen at once, spun the phone in his hand, and slipped it into the inner pocket of his suit.
Anneliese noticed Jessica''s hand was soaked with cold sweat. Her face had turned even paler. Anneliese urged Zion right away.
"Zion, can you go faster?"
Zion looked back. When he saw Jessica''s tightly shut eyes and the cold sweat covering her head, he was startled.
"Okay," he said.
Ten minutester, they arrived at the hospital. One of Jessica''s hands pressed against her stomach. The other clutched Anneliese''s hand tightly.
"Baby... Anne, my baby..."
The pain suddenly worsened. Anneliese panicked and rushed tofort her.
"Don''t worry. I know. The doctors will save the baby."
Jessica was rushed into the emergency room. Only then did Anneliese''s tears fall.
Jonathan wrapped an arm around her.
"She''ll be fine. Sit for a bit."
He helped Anneliese to the waiting area. He took the water Zion handed over, twisted the cap open, and gave it to her.
"Drink some water and calm down."
Anneliese took it but only drank a small sip before she snapped in anger.
"If Zane wants a business marriage, then he should stop stringing Jessica along. When something really happened the vanished fles such trash. I even thought he was decent before. I was blind again and again. Men are all trash!"
Jonathan ended up dragged into it without meaning to. He gently rubbed her tense shoulders.
"Honey, I''m a man too. Aren''t I good?"
Anneliese looked at him. He puffed his cheeks on purpose and looked wronged. He actually looked a little cute. Her anger eased a bit, but she still reached up and pinched his face.
"You hang out with a friend who''s so good at ying both sides. That doesn''t say much about you either. Who knows if you''ll turn bad from being around him!" Jonathan felt helpless. Even though he tried to stay out of it, he still got pulled in. He pulled her hand down and held it in hisrge palm while gently rubbing it. "Yeah, I really am good at ying both sides."
Anneliese widened her eyes. Now she was the one who was puffed up with anger.
He held both her hands, his gaze serious and focused, like he was holding something precious. Then he added, "But that''s because I only ever do that for you. If you''re cold, I''ll war you up if you''re hot coo
you down: I''ll make sure everything
stays just right."
Warmth spread over Anneliese''s cheeks and all the way to her chest. She snorted softly and shot him a look.
"You''re getting slick with your words now."
Before she could finish, Jonathan lowered his head and kissed her lips twice.
"What are you doing?!"
Nurses and patients were passing by nearby. Anneliese pushed him away in a hurry. Jonathanughed softly.
"I''m just proving that I''m not all talk. Everything I said is true."
Anneliese didn''t know what to say.
She suspected he had been attending some kind of husband-training ss these past few days.
Sweet words kept slipping out of his mouth, and she could not handle it at all.
She lightly twisted his arm in warning and changed the topic.
"Gianna did something like this. She relied on the Malone family for everything. Will Steven protect her?"
Jonathan pulled Anneliese into his arms.
"Steven has his own standards for
how he handles things. He reached his position at such a young age because he''s strict with himself and keeps his family in check. The Malone family cares about their reputation. As the next head of the family, even if he dotes on Gianna, he won''t let her act however she wants."
