Chapter 288

    ?Chapter 288:

Lost in her doubts, Belinda’s phone interrupted her thoughts with its ring.

    It was Fred.

Snapping back to reality, she steadied her voice and answered the call. Fred’s voice came through clearly. “Belinda, I’ve left the dorm and am hiding out at a ssmate’s ce. How are things with you and Mr. Cox? Did you manage to lose those who were tailing you?”

Hearing the firm, resonant voice of the young man on the line, Belinda inhaled sharply. “I’m relieved to hear you’re safe. Kristopher and I…” She paused, grappling with her thoughts before deciding to reveal the truth. “Those men in ck really wanted to kill you. They chased us aggressively, trying to ram our car. Then the unimaginable happened. Our vehicle was thrown off the road and ended up wrecked on the beach. Their cars, unable to decelerate, exploded…”

Fred’s voice interrupted anxiously from the other end. “So, the car crash on the coastal road involved you? We were just watching a live broadcast of the wreckage. It was a horrific scene! The news reported that a man and a woman were found dead on the spot, their bodies already imed by the funeral home’s vehicle…”

There was a heavy silence before Fred ventured, “The deceased… were they you and Mr. Cox?”<fn3e2c> For original chapters go to find[?]ovel</fn3e2c>

With a weary sigh, Belinda rubbed her forehead. “Unless there’s another car that crashed there, they were indeed talking about us.” She pondered the rumors about the funeral home. Perhaps they mistook Marc’s white motorhome, which he had brought in the dead of night, for a funeral home’s vehicle.

Fred’s frustration was palpable after a pause. “It’s hard to trust these online reports. If I hadn’t checked with you, I would’ve believed them too… I never imagined they were referring to you and Mr. Cox.”

“No,” Belinda began, her brows knitting together in frustration. “The deceased… it’s supposed to be me and you. Remember, Kristopher was mistaken for you because he was wearing your clothes. That’s what started the chase.”

There was a brief pause on the other end before Fred replied, “Yes, I understand. I owe Mr. Cox a debt of gratitude for that…”

“I’m not bringing this up so you’ll feel grateful,” Belinda interjected sharply. “Since you’re hiding at your ssmate’s ce, keep out of sight. Stay there for the next few days and use his inte ount if you need to go online. Act as if you’re already dead.”

Fred paused, absorbing her words, and then realization dawned on him. “Belinda, are you suggesting we meet one ruse with another to uncover the orchestrators?”

“Yes,” she confirmed, her eyes narrowing. “Those pulling the strings will surely start snooping around to confirm our deaths as soon as they hear the news. If they find out we’re unharmed, they’ll juste up with another n.”

Fred understood the significance of the n. “So we’ll stay hidden, letting them believe the rumors are true. Once they’ve achieved their goal and let their guard down, that’s our chance to step in. We’ll dig up the real schemers and gather evidence against them, right?”

Clutching his phone, Fred made a solemn vow. “Belinda, don’t worry. I’ll follow your lead. I’ll y the part of the dead man perfectly for the next few days!”

After exchanging a few final words with Fred, Belinda ended the call.

Just then, the door to the master bedroom swung open and shut. She pocketed her phone and walked upstairs.
