Joy filled my heart more than anything. I lost control, letting my emotions spill vividly for him to see just how happy I was to be his mate.
I clutched his hands, speaking quickly, telling him everything I wanted us to do together until my voice trailed off.
He… he wasn’t listening. His gaze was locked onto mine, but there was sorrow there, deep and cutting.
Myughter faded just as suddenly as it had started. My heart raced now with fear and
concern.
“You… you’re not happy?”
That brought him back. He blinked, lowered his gaze, and gently pulled away as though to hold himself together. I reached for him, cupping his cheek, forcing him to look at me, dread pooling in my chest.
“Lycannar, are you not happy we are mates?”
He didn’t meet my eyes. He only nodded.
“You know how much you mean to me.” His voice was quiet, fragile. Then he stood abruptly. “I’ll go check on my sisters.”
And he left.
Cold crept over me where I sat, stunned, my heart thudding painfully. I was still reeling when he returned to the doorway.
“Come with me.”
I didn’t answer. Instead, I dabbed at the tears in my eyes and turned away from him, angry. <fnf544> Fresh chapters posted on FιndNovel</fnf544>
He sighed softly, but there was a sound after that. It raw, pained. I turned back, startled, and saw him leaning against the wall, his face etched with suffering.
“Lycannar!” I rushed to his side in rm, but he only pulled me into his arms. His voice was
hoarse.

“My gods… I feel weak when you’re far from me. So weak, Zephyrine.”

I froze. Slowly, I pulled back to study him, disbelief clouding me. But the truth was in his eyes.
Still, I stepped away, creating distance. That was when I saw it. The more space I put between us, the paler he became, the harder he struggled to breathe.
Realization struck like a de. My chest tightened.
“What is happening? Mate bond isn’t supposed to be like this.”
I went back to him at once, hugging him, steadying him. After a moment I pulled him toward the bed, making him sit. I sat beside him and whispered, my heart trembling.
“Are you not happy we’re mated, Lycannar?”
He shook his head gently, then tucked a strand of hair behind my ear with infinite tenderness.
“I am… more than excited about our bond.”
Relief filled me, a trembling smile tugging at my lips.
“So… we can make pups, can’t we?”
“And get married,” he added firmly, voice suddenly serious. “Let’s get married, Zephyrine. Now. Tomorrow. Soonest. I want you so much… and I want to keep you safe.”
His words were raw, sincere, and they made my heart swell. But beneath the joy lingered a question. Why did he love me this much? Why only me? And why had he not asked about how his weakness get to my brother’s ears… or questioned my sudden arrival?
Searching his eyes, I leaned in to kiss him. When I pulled back, I whispered with hesitation.
“Lycannar… about your ck Tower…”
“Don’t speak of it,” he cut me off quietly, lowering his gaze. “Not tonight.”
I swallowed, unease building. He didn’t want to talk, but he needed to.
“Gaxib told my brother your secret,” I said softly. “Blue’s elder brother.”
Lycannar’s face drained of color. He stared at me, silent, then bowed his head with a quiet request.
“Please… don’t let Blue know. It would only worry her. And I’d hate for her to choose between

her brother and her King.”
“You make it sound like a terrible thing,” I frowned.
His expression shifted, darkened.

“You too, Zephyrine. Whatever happens… choose your brother over me. Always. Your bloodes first.”
I froze. The finality in his voice pierced me. He wouldn’t meet my eyes. That was when I suddenly realized what is happening.
“Lycannar?”
As if sensing where I was going, he stood abruptly.
“I’ll check on my sisters.”
He left, but I followed, and caught him leaning against the wall for support. My breath hitched, but instead of rushing over, I walked slowly toward him. With each step closer, his strength seemed to return. By the time I stood before him, his face was steadier.
“What did you see?”
His jaw clenched. And that was my answer. My blood ran cold. He had seen my death.
“Lycannar…”
He turned to me, his gaze locking on mine. My heart pounded, dread wing at me. “Maybe you’re right,” he murmured. “We should break…”
“I’ll kill you if you say that again,” I cut in, trembling, my voice sharp. “I’ll put a distance between us so wide you’ll die from it if you dare say those words again!”
He sighed, bowing his head, emotion tearing through him. Then his next question struck me like lightning.
“A dragon. Have you ever seen one? Owned one?”
My breath caught. No one knew. Not even Varyn. I had never told Lycannar. Yet he knew. That meant only one thing. He had seen it. In me.
“When I became Alpha, the Moon Goddess gave me a spirit guard,” I whispered. “Le Fey. My dragon.”

He didn’t speak. Only stared at me for a long time before looking away, tired, leaning back against the wall.
“After the mirror, I wondered what it meant. Now I know. I can’t see anyone’s death anymore… only yours. My mate’s.” Fear coiled in me. “And… when is it? How does it happen?”
He didn’t answer directly. He only shook his head, his voice quiet, grave.
“Always choose your brother. Your people. Bloodes first.”
“You are a Blood, Lycan” I said fiercely.
“Zephyrine…”
“And I’ll stand with the one my heart lies with. If it’s Varyn, then him. But if it’s you, then not even you can push me away.”
His expression twisted in exhausted disbelief. He cupped my cheek, his voice breaking into a soft, tender ache.
“Why are you so stubborn?”
I blinked against tears, whispering back,
“Because I am a King’s woman. I have to stand my ground.”
And then, without another word, he pulled me into his arms and held me close.
