Chapter 5
When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital bed.
Dad was sitting beside me looking worried, and the moment he saw I was awake, he immediately asked, “Sweetheart, who beat you up like this?”
I felt a ringing in my ears and couldn’t hear what he was saying clearly.
After gesturing for a while, I found out I had a perforated eardrum from the beating and needed time to recover.
Soon after, a nurse brought me a temporary hearing aid so I couldmunicate somewhat normally.
Suddenly, Dad’s phone rang.
Leo’s voice came through from the other end.
He sounded all sucking up as he spoke, “Mr. Thompson, when can youe sign the contract? We waited for you for hours yesterday. Did you have some emergency? Is there anything we can help you with?”
My dad replied impatiently, “Like I told you, my daughter’s in the hospital right now. We’ll talk about the contract in a few days.”
Then Dad hung up directly.
That’s right–my dad is the chairman of Thompson Group.
But since starting college, I’d been determined to make it on my own, so I never told anyone about my family
background.
Knowing Leo the way I do, he’d definitely seize this opportunity with both hands.
Back in college, just to get a spot in somepetition, he worked his ass off for our professor for half a month straight.
So this time Leo would probably show up with fruit baskets, running to every hospital in the city just to make a good impression on my dad.
I was curious to see how Leo would react when he found out the truth.
Sure enough, just as I predicted, two hourster my hospital room door was pushed open.
Leo and Sage burst in, both sweating and out of breath.
When they saw it was me in the room, Sage couldn’t help but sneer, “Maya Thompson, what are you doing here? Talk about bad luck! This is Chairman Thompson’s private hospital from Thompson Group–how can you afford to get
treatment here?”

Leo immediately became suspicious.
He demanded, “Maya Thompson, did you steal money from me? You’re the only one who knows where I keep my savings! I’m warning you–however much you stole, pay it back right now. We’re not together anymore, so you have no right to spend my money.”
I said helplessly, “Leo, have you lost your mind? You guys beat me up so badly–where would I get the strength to steal
your money?”
Sage added, “Leo, I don’t buy it. Maya never spends much money normally–she’s obviously from some basic
middle–ss family. How the hell could she afford a fancy private hospital like this? Better safe than sorry, you should totally search her. Would be such a bummer if she blew through all your cash.”
Leo immediately moved forward to forcibly search me.
I backed away quickly. “Stay away from me! I told you I didn’t touch any of your stuff. If you don’t believe me, go home and check for yourself, you psycho!”
During our struggle, Leo actually yanked out my IV needle.
Dark red blood ran down the back of my hand.
I was in agony and yelled angrily, “Leo Stark, get the hell away from me! You maniac!”
But Leo didn’t care and started searching me anyway.
At that critical moment, Dad finally came back.
He hurled his thermos straight at Leo’s head and bellowed, “Get your filthy hands off my daughter!”
Leo yelped in pain and turned around furiously.
But when he saw Dad’s face, his whole spine curved in submission.
“Mr… Mr. Thompson, what a coincidence running into you here!”
