Chapter 1
During the new semester of my senior year, I prepared my resume early and got ready for internships.
But on the day of my interview, the interviewer opened my resume and his face immediately darkened.
“Are you kidding me? Didn’t you say you had no ns to get pregnant anytime soon?”
I waspletely confused, then shocked to discover my resume had been reced with a prenatal exam report.
I desperately tried to exin.
But the interviewer still kicked me out without mercy.
“What we value most at thispany is integrity. I’ve seen plenty of employees like you who lie about pregnancy to scam maternity leave after their probation period. Please see yourself out!”
I thought back carefully and only remembered my roommate Sage Campbell messing with my briefcase before I left this morning.
So I stormed back to the dorm, furious.
When my roommates saw me return, they immediately came over asking about the interview results.
Only Sage looked guilty as shey on her bed.
This confirmed my suspicions even more.
The next second, I found my actual resume on her desk.
With the evidence right there, I confronted her directly.
“Sage Campbell, I knew it was you! Why the hell did you switch out my resume with some pregnancy test report? I’m not even pregnant! Do you realize I got kicked out before I could even say a word because of your stupid stunt?”
Sage paused, then kept apologizing.
“Maya, I’m sorry, okay? I was just messing around with you! I had no idea it would blow up like this. Chill out.”
Hearing this bullshit made me want to puke.
Before this, I had already passed the initial screening. Today’s second round only had three candidates.
The other two didn’t have better experience or credentials than me. Overall, my chances of getting the offer were extremely high.
Sage’s casual “sorry”pletely destroyed my internship ns!

Chapter 1
I was furious. “Sage Campbell, what’s wrong with you? What kind of joke is that? You obviously did this to sabotage me on purpose! What did I ever do to you?”
Hearing this, Sage’s eyes turned red.
“Maya, why are you being so mean? I was literally just joking around! Besides, you could’ve totally just emailed them your resume right there on the spot. It’s not my fault you can’t think on your feet. Why are you putting this all on me? God, if I knew you were gonna be such a drama queen about it, I never would’ve done it.”
I was so angry I almostughed at her twisted logic.
“Sage Campbell, what kind of bullshit reasoning is that?” I couldn’t take it anymore and yanked her off the bed, pping her hard across the face.
“You… how dare you hit me… waaaah…” Sage pointed at me angrily.
I sneered. “Don’t get mad! I was just ying a joke on you. Don’t be such a poor sport!”
Even though seeing Sage get what she deserved felt satisfying, it still didn’t ease the rage in my heart.
Just then, my boyfriend Leo Stark called me.
In that moment, I felt overwhelmed with grievance.
I said pitifully, “Leo, I failed the interview.”
Leoforted me gently.
“It’s okay, Maya. There will be other opportunities. Why don’t youe with me to a dinner tonight? Just to take your mind off things. One of our club’s junior members passed her interview and is treating everyone to celebrate. Come join us.”
The club Leo mentioned was one he founded during college. He always brought me to various activities.
And the club members were always friendly to me too.
Even though I wasn’t in the mood for this kind of thing, I didn’t want to be a downer, so I agreed.
But I never expected that Leo’s “junior member” would turn out to be Sage Campbell.
I’d been so busy with my thesis and resumetely that Leo and I barely saw each other.
I had heard Sage mention joining some club before, but I didn’t know the details.
When Sage walked in, she sweetly greeted Leo.
“Leo, thank you for referring me! Otherwise, I never would’ve had a chance to get into Ster Group.”
