Forget the 40

    hapter 8

No matter how much Kira screamed her head off, nobody moved.

Everyone just looked at her like she waspletely nuts.

Kira started panicking when she noticed their expressions, suddenly realizing something was off. She pointed at me, losing it:

“Evelyn, what kind of spell did you put on these people? The evidence is right there, why are you all still protecting

    her?”

I looked at her like she’d lost her damn mind: “Kira, what the hell is wrong with you?”

“You seriously brought this shitty AI video to the cops as evidence?”

Kira shrieked: “You’re lying! This is security footage–it can’t be AI!”

I was even more done, pointing at my body clipping through the wall:

“Since when do normal people walk through walls to break in? No keys, no doors–just phasing through solid matter?”

“And why does your ‘security camera‘ have close–ups of documents?”

“Who the fuck writes ‘TOP SECRET‘ in giant letters on confidential files?”

There were so many plot holes, I didn’t even know where to start.

While Kira was distracted listening to me tear apart her fake evidence, the cops who’d been waiting made their move.

One officer grabbed Pearl’s arm while another tackled Kira to the ground.

Kira hit the concrete hard and got swarmed by police immediately.

    Pearl was finally safe.

After the investigation, turns out Kira was the one who leaked Harrison’s designs to thepetitor.

The coffee shop security footage was crystal clear, even caught the audio,

The rival exec asked: “Isn’t Harrison your husband? Aren’t you worried that if he goes bankrupt, you’ll lose everything

    too?”

Kira didn’t give a shit: “Maybe when he’s broke, he’ll finally realize I’m the only one who truly loves him and will stick by him no matter what.”

The guyughed: “If you love him so much, why did you run off overseas years ago?”

Kira’s face twisted with rage: “Because after Pearl was born, Harrison wasn’tpletely obsessed with me anymore.”

“How dare he pay attention to another woman? Even if it’s my own daughter!”

“I needed to teach Harrison a lesson–that his world should only have room for me.”

“But I never expected him to find recements.”

“This time I’m really gonna teach him a lesson.”

When Harrison learned the real reason Kira left all those years ago, itpletely broke him.

This time, no matter how much Kira begged, Harrison ruthlessly divorced her and had her thrown in prison for corporate espionage.

Even though Harrison Corp proved they weren’t guilty of giarism, thepany was still badly damaged.

Harrison pushed through the pressure and still bought that international autism research.

And it actually worked! Pearl slowly got better and even said “daddy” for the first time.

Harrison was crying, gripping my hands all emotional:

“Evelyn, thank you. Thank you so much.”

“I’ve been thinking a lottely, and Pearl depends on you so much… why don’t you be her real mom?”

He suddenly pulled out a ring and dropped to one knee: “Will you marry me?”

I yanked my hands away: “Are you insane? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!”

“Just because nobody wants you doesn’t mean I’m desperate!”

Since Pearl was doing so much better anyway, I packed my bags that very night and got the hell out of there.

Spending too much time around people who’d been with Kira clearly messes with your head.
