Tricked 79

Joshua was speaking with the waiter. Today, he wore a perfectly tailored gray suit, its darker, more subdued colorplementing his silver hair. The design was simple, yet the details were wless.

Few men could pull off a suit in such a shade, but on him it looked effortlessly striking.

From Xylia’s angle, she could only see his profile. His features were sharp and defined, his silver hair falling. neatly across his forehead. His captivating eyes held a hint of intensity.

“Do you know him?” Josie followed Xylia’s gaze, just as Joshua turned his head and noticed them. He looked familiar to Josie–like someone she had seen before.

“I do.” Xylia took Josie by the hand and walked up to Joshua. “What a coincidence. Are you here for dinner too?”

Joshua’s eyes dropped to their linked arms, his gaze darkening. “I am here to attend to some matters.”

Then his eyes shifted past Xylia, catching sight of Connor and Tessaing out from inside. The hostility in his expression deepened. “Ms. Schultz, Mr. Garcia would like to meet you tomorrow. Are you avable?” he added.

Hearing him suddenly address her as “Ms. Schultz” felt strange to Xylia. Still, upon hearing “Mr. Garcia,” she hesitated for a moment before nodding.

Upon hearing Joshua mention “Mr. Garcia“, Connor quickly walked over. “Mr. Garcia?” Connor looked at Xylia. “Then I’ll apany you tomorrow.”

Without waiting for Xylia to respond, Joshua let out a coldugh and looked at Connor. “Mr. Garcia didn’t say he wanted to see you. If you want to meet him, make an appointment yourself.”

Then Joshua turned back to Xylia, his expression softening. “I still have matters to attend to. I’ll pick you up

    tomorrow at ten.”

Xylia nodded, then Joshua entered the restaurant.

Connor, with a serious expression, pulled Xylia aside. “Do you know what to say when you meet Mr. Garcia tomorrow?”

    Xylia looked at Connor. “What?”

He gave her a cold, sidelong nce. “Although you have joined the Garcia family, do not forget that we are truly the ones who will spend the rest of our lives together as a family.

“The Ford family is facing a crisis. The Garcia Group has a project that could help. Bring it up casually, not too deliberately”

Xylia scoffed. “Do you really think Mr. Garcia believes I’m the daughter who went missing years ago? With all his resources, he wouldn’t have investigated?”

“A paternity test doesn’t lie. No matter how much he investigates, you’ll still be a Garcia,” Connor said.

“Is that so?” Xylia lifted her eyes to study his face. It was a face she had known for eight years, yet now it felt blurred, unreal.

Connor knew very well whether the test was fake. Xylia wondered why he was so certain the Garcias wouldn’t uncover the truth.

“When we get home tonight, I will tell you about the matters concerning the Garcia family,” Connor said.

Xylia only nodded and left with Josie.

Joshua arrived at the window–side seat on the upper floor of the restaurant. Eliza was already seated, flipping through a magazine.

“What did you call me here for?” Joshua asked, ncing casually at the magazine. It wasn’t from the restaurant -it was a jewelry catalog.

“You’re finally here.” Upon seeing Joshua arrive, Eliza hurriedly put away the manual, picked up her bag, and looked very hurried.

“I’ve arranged for you and Noelle to meet. The two of you should talk things through. Whatever happens, don’t damage your rtionship. I still have to see my mentor–I’m already runningte,” Eliza said.

She rattled off her words in a rush and dashed out, afraid that if she lingered even a second longer, Joshua might fling the cutlery on the table at her.

As she expected, Joshua’s expression was already beyond grim. Without wasting another moment, he left the

    restaurant.

Ten minutester, a woman in an elegant dress hurried in, only for the waiter to inform her that the person she was meeting had already gone.

The next morning, 10:00 a.m. Connor personally apanied Xylia to the door.

Joshua’s Maybach was already parked at the entrance. He gazed at the Ford Mansion, a strange light flickering in his eyes. He needed an outlet. When Joshua was in a foul mood, he always looked for something–or someone–to take it out on.

Just then, Connor and Xylia walked over. Upon seeing Joshua, Connor gave him a piercing look.

Xylia said that Joshua was the driver for the Garcia family. However, Connor always felt that Joshua’s arrogant temperament was not characteristic of a simple driver.

“Have you been waiting long?” Xylia greeted Joshua with a smile.

Joshua’s eyes softened as theynded on her. “Not at all. Let’s go.”

Xylía moved to get into the car, but Connor caught her wrist, stopping her. His hand brushed gently across

her forehead, smoothing her stray hair. “I’ll be waiting for you when you get back.”

Xylia flinched back, putting distance between herself and Connor, watching him warily.

Connor’s expression darkened. He hadn’t expected her to humiliate him so openly in front of another man.

“We’re about to get divorced–why put on an act?” Xylia said.

Joshua shot him a mocking look, then opened the passenger door. “Come on, Xylia. Mr. Garcia is already waiting.”

Xylia quickly got into the front passenger seat.

After the door closed, Connor walked up and stood in front of Joshua. They were nearly the same height, both exuding amanding presence, as if locked in an invisible sh.

“My wife and I will never divorce. This is my final warning: stay away from her,” Connor said coldly, ring at Joshua, his toneced with threat.

Joshua’s lips curved faintly, though his expression remained devoid of warmth. “What can you do to me?” His arrogance was evident, as if the heir of the Ford Group meant nothing to him.

Connor’s expression darkened, filled with anger.

Joshua’s smirk deepened, his eyes still carrying a hint of amusement, though it seemed mocking. “You’d better worry about yourself. Some holes are too big to patch.”

After speaking, Joshua walked toward the driver’s seat. Under Connor’s fierce gaze, the Maybach sped away.

Connor watched them leave, determined not to let Joshua get away with this–after all, he was just a driver.

Inside the car, Joshua gripped the wheel, his expression still cold. The image of Connor’s hand brushing Xylia’s hair lingered in his mind, fueling his fury.

He had already been in a foul mood, and now, after witnessing the scene earlier, his anger had only deepened. Connor would pay for this. Joshua wouldn’t rest until he did.

Beside him, Xylia nced over and asked softly, “What did you two just say?”

Joshua kept a stern expression. After hearing Xylia’s words, he said, “Nothing. Your husband just threatened me–told me to stay away from you, or he wouldn’t let me off the hook,”
