Xavier.
It’s been a whole twenty-four hours since our girl went to sleep and still hasn’t woken up. We’re all silently freaking out, but I know this is hitting Levi the hardest because he feels responsible for what happened. None of us has left her bedside except to go to the bathroom. Mum has been bringing us food and trying tofort us, but for the most part, we just sit and wait. The pack healer just left for the third time, stillpletely unsure of her condition.
“I’m going to have to call the Alpha Kings, maybe postpone the blessings until we know Envy is up and well enough to participate,” Dad states, and I nod my agreement. Nothing matters right now but figuring out what is happening to my little mate and if she’s okay. When it’s just my brothers and me left in the room, Levi breaks. Tears spill from his eyes as he buries his head in his hands and sobs loudly. “I’m so sorry, guys. If I had just been stronger, faster, better, this wouldn’t have happened.”
“Don’t me yourself, brother.” I ce a hand on his shoulder as his long hair curtains his face. He’s left it down for the first time in years.
“It could have happened to any of us. Those fucking rogues don’t care about who or where they attack.” Noah says softly from the side of the bed where he holds Envy’s hand. Haiden hasn’t said a word since we brought her in here. He just sits in the corner with a face full of sorrow as he stares at our girl, waiting for any sign of hope. After a while, Dad returns with an old expression on his face, one I don’t think I’ve ever seen before…
“The Alpha Kings will be here by the morning.”
“The morning? I thought you said you were going to postpone, not move it forward!” I growl.
“Yes, well, that was the n, son, but when I exined the situation to Alpha King Mchi, he became very curious, and I had no choice but to tell him what had truly happened.”
“You told him?” Levi scrunches up his tear-soaked face.
“I had to. You know very well we don’t keep things from the Alpha Kings. He agrees she might be Goddess Blessed and would like to see for himself as soon as possible.”
This makes sense, I know, because I trained alongside the Alpha Kings. Mchi was gifted the power of sight. Envy doesn’t need to be awake for him to be able to see into her mind. Maybe he can shed some more light on the situation and tell us what is going on with her.
“Get some rest, boys. It’s going to be a long couple of days.”
I open my mouth to protest, but he waves me off. “Sleep. It’s the best thing to do right now. Maybe having you four touching her might help speed up the healing process or whatever is going on right now.” I very gently move Envy from the side of the bed to the middle, and we all squeeze in together. Levi goes to move
behind me, but I roll him over me and scoot backwards so he can lie right next to our girl. I know he needs it the most right now. Noah does the same with Haiden, and we nod at each other over the bodies. They need her the most. I sling my arm over Levi so I can at least touch her, and we all lie in silence listening to the steady rhythm of her heartbeat.
Envy
“Gods, why is it so bright?”
There’s a very feminine giggle somewhere around me as I attempt to squint through the sea of light.
“Just wait a moment, sweet girl.”
My eyes adjust to the lighting, and I can finally see the tall, slender woman. Dressed in a long white dress and dark raven hair that flows around her hips. She looks…a lot like me.
“Where am I?”
“You’re in the Red Moon packhouse.”
“This doesn’t look like my packhouse?”
Sheughs again. “No, it doesn’t. We’re currently in your mind space.”
“Is this real? Or a dream?”
“It is as real as you are. You’ve finallye into your powers, but prematurely. You were supposed to get your wolf first.” She rubs her chin gently as she ponders.
“So…I’m dead?”
“No, no, no, no…your body is just resting. Recovering from using a lot of power to save your mate.”
I gasp. “Levi! Is he…”
“He’s okay, but he is quite upset.”
My heart hurts knowing that my mates would be feeling upset right now.
“They’ll be fine. We have much to discuss and little time to do so. Time works differently here. For what feels like a few minutes to us here will be hours or days in the real world.”
“What am I?” I quickly blurt out. She smiles at me softly.
“You’re a wolf, but also one of my direct descendants.”
Ι
“But I thought your descendants were…”
“Royalty, yes. You were stolen as a Pup. Cut from your mother’s womb in the middle of the night by a dark witch. That same witch tried to sacrifice you in hopes of more power.”
gasp with my
hand covering my mouth, but I don’t interrupt her to ask the million questions I have.
“When that witch sacrificed you, she made a grave mistake, because she did indeed sacrifice you, but instead of being blessed and gifted with power beyond normal means, it was you who was saved, blessed, and gifted.”
“But if I am indeed a direct descendant of you, wouldn’t ‘I have already been given a gift?”
“You would, and you do, but when you were sacrificed, it was Hades and Persephone that saved you and let you live.”
“The God and Goddess of the underworld? Why would they save me?”
“Their reasoning is still unknown to me…but when they did save you, they also bestowed upon you their own gifts. Meaning that you will have powers well beyond any of these worlds. Two of which you have recently used. With these powers wille great responsibilities, and I need you to understand this, to know that big things wille your way and you must be ready.”
“You meant the flowers and the…”
“The ability to determine if someone lives or dies. Yes. These are just two of many things you will be able to do. Once your wolf appears, you wille into all of your powers but also your duties, whatever they may be, as a result of receiving these gifts.”
“This is a lot…I have so many questions.”
“I know you do, sweet girl, but I am afraid we’re running out of time. You’re needed back in the real world. Be safe, be strong, lead with your heart but trust your head.”
The dream state that I’m in begins to shake slightly, and I can feel myself slipping away.
“Wait! What’s your name?!” I reach out for her.
“Selene, my name is Selene.” She smiles as everything goes blinding white once again.
