Guard 137

    To protect what’s mine

    Chapter 137 Amalie

I growl slightly at Cal as I shift back into myself. Although, I think that the growl is a groan. I am sore. I am tired. I am starving. I pull on my clothes. They stick to my sweaty skin, and it makes me more aggravated. I am finally dressed after it takes way too long.

Cal raises an eyebrow at me.

I let out another growl. “I don’t like you right now,” I grumble.

“Bring her back tomorrow, same time,” Juliet orders as she walks past us.

    “Do I get a say?” I grouch.

“Not if you want our training,” Juliet orders sharply.

“Come on, let’s get you something to eat,” Cal says as he starts to leave.

I sigh as I drag my feet behind him as we leave the gym. Cal looks back at me. I keep dragging my feet. Cal smirks at me and then crouches down.

“What are you doing?” I ask in confusion.

“Come on, I’ll give you a piggyback ride,” Cal says smugly.

I don’t know if I should be grateful or indigent at the offer.

“Yes or no love,” he says as he slowly starts to stand up.

I sigh before walking the two steps. I wrap my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist. I ignore the slight pain from stretching my legs so widely. In fact, I had been ignoring the pain from yesterday all morning.

Cal stands up and starts walking towards home. I rest my chin on Cal’s shoulder.

“You did very well,” Cal tells me.

“I am still mad at you,” I mutter to him.

“I know, but you are a natural. You are learning very quickly. Juliet told me that she ns to start you on defensivebat maneuvers in a few days. She would like a few more days of Beren building stamina before she starts the other training,” Cal tells me.

“I would be very happy, if I could feel my legs,” I tell him.

“How about a hot bath after breakfast?” Cal asks me.

“A massage too?” I ask hopefully.

“I think that could be arranged.” Cal agrees.

We walk the rest of the way home in silence. After Cal walks up the stairs, he sets me back down on my feet. Cal then opens the door for me. I am about to walk inside when a tiny body ms into me.

The velocity that Rose was traveling, causes me to lose my bnce. Cal lets go of the door and steadies me. I look down at my pup. She is wailing with tears streaming down her little face.

“Rosebud, what’s wrong?” I ask, fear and desperation fill me.

“You… you no longer… love me,” Rose cries.

“What? What’s wrong baby?” I ask in confusion.

“You leave me behind. You forget me,” she hups.

“Oh, oh, no baby,” I try to sooth her as I wrap my arms around her. My legs are shaking from exhaustion, so I sink to the porch. I situate Rose in myp and wrap my arms around her tightly. “No baby, I could never forget about you. I love you too much.”

“You leave me behind,” she sniffles as she buries her face into my chest.

“I’m so sorry Rosebud. I love you so much,” I tell her. “I’m sorry that you feel like I left you behind. I have been training so I can get stronger to protect you. I want to keep you safe.” I don’t know how much Rose hears and understands as she is still sniffing. I know that she is listening to me.

Goddess, I am a horrible mother. I have been leaving Rose behind so much. We went from spending almost all of our time together. And now, I haven’t been spending that much time together. It’s no wonder she thinks I don’t love her anymore and have forgotten about her.

“You gone,” she says quietly as calms down in my arms.

“I took her to go train,” Cal says as he sits down beside us. “Your mom wants to be the best.”

Rose looks over at Cal and offers him a tiny re. It looks more cute, than intimidating. I feel her tiny chest rumble with a growl.

“Baby, I am so sorry that I haven’t been able to spend time with you. I love you so much,” I tell her as I kiss her forehead. I love her so much.

“You no take her anymore?” Rose growls out protectively.

“We did not want to wake you up when we leave in the morning for training,” Cal tells.

“Yes she is,” Cal tells her with a firm nod.

    “You tell me,” Rose demands.

“We get up very early,” I tell.

“I get up,” she tells me sternly.

“Okay, we will wake you up tomorrow when we leave,” I tell her as I hold her closely.

“Now, let’s get your mom fed and she wants a hot bath,” Cal says as he stands up. He pulls Rose from my grasp and set her on his hip. He then pulls me to my feet.

I let out a groan as I stand up. I want a hot bath to rx my muscles.

Cal leans over and kisses me on the lips. He then opens the door for me again. I make it through the doorway this time and to the dining room.

“You look horrible,” Uncle Mike chuckles at me.

“I feel it,” I sigh as I sit down at the table. Rose wiggles out of Cal’s grasp and climbs into myp. “Did you eat?” I ask her.

She nods her head and rests in myp. I ce another kiss on her forehead.

Cales back into the dining room with two tes. He sets a te down in front of me and then in front of where he is going to sit. He goes back to the kitchen. Cales back with two sses of

    milk.

“Thank you,” I tell him. I then start to eat my breakfast. My te is empty before I even realize that I have inhaled my food. Cal smirks at me and slides his half–eaten te in front of me. “Thank you,” I tell him again.

Cal stands up and kisses my cheek. He then leaves the room.

I continue to eat. This time I don’t inhale it as fast as my first te. I take my time in finish Cal’s

    food.

When I am finished, Cales back into the dining room. “Time for your bath,” Cal tells me. Cal takes Rose from me, and I stand up.

I follow Cal back to my room.
