Guard 120

    Chapter 120 Amalie

I wake up with desperation wing through me. I don’t know when I fell asleep or what woke me up.

‘Beren!‘ I shout for my wolf. ‘I know you can hear me! I need to know what happened!‘ Beren does not answer me. I want to know what woke us up and what happened earlier today. I can feel her, but she is blocking me. “Beren is not answering me. She is blocking me out,” I say aloud with a gasp.

“Darling?” Mark asks me in concern. He sits up with me.

“Beren isn’t answered me. I can’t get her to answer,” I say, I can hear the desperation in my voice.

Beren and I had finally got back onto the same page. We were telling each other things that we had kept a secret. Now, she is blocking,me out and ignoring me. Something is very wrong with my wolf.

‘Beren, we’re going to shift now,‘ I order as I try to focus on her. ‘Something is wrong!‘

She ignores me and ignores my attempts to push her forward. She won’t take control. She won’t

    shift.

“Darling?” Mark asks me in concern again.

    “I can’t shift,” I whisper.

“What?” Mark asks in concern, he is sounding like a broken record.

“I can’t shift. Beren won’t acknowledge me and shift,” I say in a panicked voice. “Something’s wrong

    and it’s all my fault.”

“It’s not your fault,” my mate tries to sooth.

“No, it is,” I say desperately. “I’ve been…” I trail off. How am I supposed to exin that I have been having dreams of a witch? How am I supposed to tell them that I’ve talked with one and she is nice? That she can’t be behind everything. Goddess everything became so </bplicated.

Mark goes ridged as his eyes ze over. He then lets out a snarl. Mark throws the nket off of

himself and dashes from our room.

I follow him. He has answers and I want them. I follow Mark to the dining room.

“Watch Rose and Ama,” Mark orders Uncle Mike as he starts to go towards the back door.

I grab a hold of Mark’s hand before he can leave me behind. “What is going on?” I ask in desperation. “Where is Cal?

“Cal is busy, and we will exin everything when we get back,” Mark growls as he does not turn

    around to face me.

“You’re keeping something from me,” I say softly.

“Amalie, I have to go help Calyx,” Mark says sternly.

“Help him with what?” I plead.

Mark is about to reply when there is banging on the front door. He turns sharply and looks at me for the first time. “Stay with Uncle Mike,” he orders as he walks around me and to the front door.

I go make my way back to the dining room. Uncle Mike gives me a strained smile as he is sitting at the table with Rose. She must have woken up earlier than me and been bored. Rose is humming as she colors. I’m d she has not noticed the tension. I don’t want to disturb her, so I back out of the

    dining room.

I am about to go to my room for a sweater when there is louder snarls and growlsing from the front door. I change my destination and make my way to the front door.

“Everything was fine until you pushed to find your precious mate! None of this would be happening now if you had use taken a chosen mate,” a male shouts, anger in his voice.

“She has been nothing but trouble!” another male shouts.

“Say something against Amalie again,” Mark growls as he takes up the doorway.

“One of the rogues escaped, under your brother’s watch!” a female screams.

“I think we should have some new leadership,” a different female says.

“Say that again,” Mark growls threateningly.

“Your brother is being challenged now,” the first male says.

“What have you done to Calyx?” I demand as I rush forward. Mark wraps his arms around my waist to keep me inside and away from the traitors.

“He is being challenged for leadership,” the male repeats.

I recognize two of the four standing outside. Jonas and Alison, two pack elders, are standing there with anger written across their features.

“I know that you and your brother are capable leaders, but things have changed since you found your mate,” Alison says diplomatically.

“Overthrowing pack leaders will bring the Alpha Council in to investigate,” Mark growls as he

    shuffles me behind him.

“Good, we can show them that we don’t need you,” the other male growls. I don’t recognize him.

“Get off my property,” Uncle Will growls as hees running from the direction of the hospital.

“You can side with the winning side or the losing side,” Jonas growls at Uncle Will.

“I will side with my family,” Uncle Will growls threateningly, his wolf dangerously close to the

    surface.

“I suggest you think about the line you are drawing. You will lose the pack leaders, your doctor, head nurse, top warriors, and more if you continue,” Mark growls.

A pain shoots through my shoulder. I let out a gasp of pain.

Mark turns and looks at me in concern. “Ama?” Mark asks me in concern.

“Cal, something happened to Cal,” I growl through the pain.

‘Get to mate,‘ Beren growls at me.

I try not to scoff that now she wants to talk and acknowledge me.

‘Get to mate!‘ Beren screams at me as she takes control. She pushes the shift, and I don’t fight her.
