To protect what’s mine
Chapter 107 Amalie
I’m stretched out on the now dry grass with Vickle and Rose when Sam finallyes by. I sit up immediately when I catch his scent. He walks slowly across the yard towards me. I’m not sure if he is
till hurt or is hesitating toe any closer.
“How are you feeling?” I ask, hoping to bridge the awkward gap.
“Better, Gretchen discharged me and told me to take it easy for the next few days,” he tells me.
“Good, that’s great,” I try for a smile.
“Luna, again, I am-” he starts before I cut him off.
“Do not apologize. You did nothing wrong. We did not know about the attack, you couldn’t have known,” I interrupt. “I don’t want or need you to apologize. Also, I thought we talked about me being called Luna.”
He just nods his head awkwardly. “Um, is Calyx or Markus around?” Sam asks.
“He’s inside at the moment. I’m pretty sure that he is watching me through the kitchen window to make sure nothing happens,” I say. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that my mates are anxious after what happened yesterday. But the over protectiveness, will get old really quick. D
“I know that you are not happy, but please cut them some ck. They have looked for you for seven years and now you are trying to be kidnapped,” Sam points out.
“I know,” I sigh. “One normal day, is that too much to ask for?”
“Evidently,” Vickieughs. “Come on, let’s go to the hospital to meet our new Beta female.”
“Vickie,” Cal says sharply from the back door.
“What? Mark already talked with her, and it’s been hours since James started taking with her. If you guys were going to kick her out or James was going to reject her, you would have already,” Vickie points out. “So, the Luna,” she says, pointing at me, “should go introduce herself and thank her properly for helping to save her.”
“Why do you always cause chaos7” Calyx asks himself as he approaches our group.
“You never did tell me how Mark’s conversations went,” I point out. It’s early afternoon now and Mark is not back yet..
“Kira and Daniel fled from Dawn w Pack after the former Alpha tried to force Kira as his chosen mate. But right now, I don’t want Ama anywhere near her until we are sure that Kira is not going to

turn on us. She has worked for the witches for a few years now,” Cal says.
“Witches? I thought they died out years ago. Didn’t the humans kill most of them during those Salem witch trails?” Vickie asks in confusion. (
“Evidently, a coven survived,” Cal sighs as he runs his fingers through his hair.
The tousled hair looks really good on him, I think to myself, getting sidetracked. He would probably look even hotter if I could run my hands through his hair as we make out. Goddess, I’m getting so aroused right now.
Cal smirks at me, as if he can read my thoughts. It then dawns on me that he can smell my arousal.
“Alright, enough with the looks,” Vickie snickers as she breaks me out of my thoughts. “Back to the situation with the Beta female.”
“Uncle Michael is looking into what he can find. James is going to spend the next couple of days talking to her and getting to know her. If need be, we’ll figure out a way to make sure she tells us everything,” he says.
“Without just using an Alphamand?” I ask.
“Yeah,” Cal sighs. “If what she says is true, I don’t want to force her.”
“What if we ask her to allow you to use the Alphamand?” Vickie asks as she sits up.
“Wait, you said former Alpha of Dawn w, right? Devin Connix was her Alpha?” Sam asks for
rification.
“Yes, seems like the jack… sorry, the jerk,” ?al amends his statement as he looks down at Rose who is drawing in her coloring book. “The jerk was hurting his own pack.”
“There seems to be a lot of that going around,” I mutter darkly.
the council, but I think I am going to have to. I believe that we will “I know. I don’t want to involve need to call a full council for an investigation of all packs,” he sighs. “There is just too much
corruption.”
H
“How will that help if the Alphas on the council could also be corrupted?” I ask, genuinely cur
Cal starts to exin the process to us. “Everyone will submit a list of allies. Then multiple teams of Alphas that have nothing to do with those packs or their allies will investigate the packs. Thest time this happened was right, after the Civil War. There were less packs, but the process was, each pack was visited by three Alphas three times. Each group had an Alpha heir, a current Alpha, and a retired Alpha. They will make sure that each wolf in the group is from a different region.

“These groups would then go and meet with different packs at different times, It could end up, two groups visiting the same day. Or back–to–back days. Or there could be a few weeks between the visits. But the point is, they are random inspections. They look at everything. Records of Ie, budgets for improving the pack, how big is the territory, who is a part of the pack, and so on.
“Why an heir, current, and former Alpha?” I ask.
“The heir is there to learn and give prospective. The current Alpha should be looking for current issues. If one pack is suffering from an issue, most likely another might be too. Then the former Alpha is there to because they are supposed to have wisdom and experience to guide the investigation,” he says.
“So, it like a business audit?” Jimmy asks.
“Basically, if the business was hundreds of packs, spread all across North America. We will pull in Alphas from Canada and Mexico too,” he tells us.
“That’s a lot of werewolves,” I say.
“It is, that is why we usually don’t call a full council very often. Usually just call for the pack leaders of that region,” Cal says.
I can see “Where will the council take ce?” I ask.
the stress in his eyes
“The Alphas we met a week ago will set the location and the time of the council meeting,” Cal says as he exhales.
