Guard 78

    Chapter 78 Calyx

Mark and I do not want to leave Ama, but meeting with Colton and Lawrence is important. We need to know who we can trust. I have a feeling that Lawrence’s ideology runs deep and was encouraged by my father. Trying to understand the why, is getting me nowhere.

“So, how badly is this going to go?” Mark huffs as we jog towards the pack house. He is stuffing thest of his toast into his mouth.

Nick and James had mind linked us while we had chased after Amalie, that their fathers and them are waiting in

    our office

“I don’t know,” I growl in irritation at the situation. “Dad screwed over this pack in so many different ways. He never told us that he was losing his wolf.”

“We haven’t seen his shift in a few years. Not since shortly after mom died,” Mark points out.

“I know. But is that an oversight on our part at not noticing or is that because dad hid it so well?” I sigh. Dad may not have lost his mind when mom died, but he lost his wolf. I always thought dad was so strong to not lose his mind or his wolf.

“Then, evidently, dad, Sam’s family, and Ama’s family were all in on keeping Ama locked away from us,” Mark growls out the next issue.

“We need to figure out why,” I tell him. “It’s more than her being a white wolf, it has to be.”

He sighs before stating, “You know that means going to the cells and confronting them.”

“I know, we will not tell Ama. We do not know how she will feel about us going to confront her parents and potentially torturing them,” I say.

“She’s going to hate being left in the dark,” Mark, points out.

“I don’t care. I want her safe more,” I growl at the thought of Ama being anywhere near her parents even if there is sliver bars between them, has me almost seeing red. 1

    “I agree,” Mark states simply.

“Last, we need to figure out if both Colton and Lawrence’s ideology and loyalty,” I say.

“You think that they could be in on everything?” Mark asks me as we slow to a walk as we approach the pack house. “When we asked the other day, Colton knew nothing about Ama being locked up.”

“That doesn’t mean that he would not show loyalty to dad if he ever showed back up,” I tell him.

“You think he will be back?” Mark asks as he looks around at our pack.

I don’t answer. At this point, I don’t know, but I would not put it past him.

    Chapter 28 Calyx

There are a few people running around at 8 a.m. There is a group of high schoolers y football in the field next to the pack house. A few of the teens that are not invested in ying, raise a hand at us in greeting. A couple of Warriors exit the pack house. They nod to us before they take off running, probably to run the perimeter. As we walking to the pack house, we can here Michelle shouting orders for the pack meeting this evening.

1 crack a small smile at this. Even at 8 a.m., the pack house is chaos. We walk the log way to our office, stopping by the kitchen first. Chasing down Ama, made us miss breakfast, Michelle always has a tray of baked goods sitting out on the counter. Today is no different, there are muffins on the counter. It’s piled high with different kinds.

    00

As we walk past, Mark and I each snag two,

“Those are not for ya,” Michelle shouts as she tries to swat our hands away from the muffins. “Ya have been livin at Mike’s. He feeds ya.”

“Well, we were unable to eat this morning. And besides, you have the best muffins,” Mark attempts to sweet talk our head omega.

“Tough luck honey,” she says as she swats Mark as he goes back for a third, “I gotta feed all those warriors who refuse to move out or learn ta cook. I swear by the goddess herself.”

“We’ll get you more help,” I promise.

“More help ain’t what I need,” she huffs. “I need those that work here ta put in an effort.”

“You do realize that you are the head omega of the pack house, and you can fire those that work here,” Mark points out.

“Honey, ya do realize that this is not everyone’s top pick of a job?” Michelle asks, raising an eyebrow at us.

“We have a meeting to get to. But in the uping week, I want to sit down with you to figure out a solution,” I tell Michelle. I think getting Ama to help Michelle would be a great way to have her start taking over Luna duties.

“Fine, I’ll talk wit a few of the gals and figure out what we can do or what we need,” Michelle sighs at us. “Woulda Te anything sent to ya’s office?”

“No thank you,” I tell her as we take off down towards our office. We’re reallyte now. I have a feeling Colton won’t mind. He has always been respectful towards us. The problem is going to be Lawrence. The older Delta has always had a chip on his shoulder.

There are days when I wish we could have more freedom in choosing our ranked members. But over time, the goddess has blessed certain lines to fulfill ranked member positions. I wouldn’t call it selective breeding, but it’s simr. Lines containing the genes of those that have been blessed by the goddess, are in packs already or gravitate to packs.

But that’s not to say that if a Delta, Gamma, Beta, or even an Alpha line is wiped out, someone else could not be appointed to the position. A Beta would usually fill the spot if something happened to the Alpha. I’m pretty sure that Devin Connix’s Beta became the Alpha of the Dawn w Pack. But if the Beta was unfit to lead as an Alpha, someone in the pack with Alpha genes could challenge.

    Chapter 78 Calyx

Actually, any Alpha could be challenged for their pack at anytime. Challenges for a pack have be rare over time. With technology advancing, werewolves that are not happy in their current pack can simply leave. A simple phone call can arrange that wolf to be able to move into a new pack. Alliances can be made more easily for pack members to move easier if wanted or need be.

There have been a few challenges for packs, but for the most part, other solutions are found. Not to mention that if the council catches wind of a leadership change, they will investigate. They’ll start poking around to figure out if the current Alpha stepped down to let their heir take over, was there a death, a coup, or even if an outsider took Over the pack.
