I stared at Axel, trying to decipher if he was joking, but there wasn’t a hint of a joke on his face. He was serious.
I was left speechless. Utterly speechless and I had nothing to say to that. So I looked away, focusing all my attention on the book I couldn’t see.
“So what career are you going for?” he asked, his eyes hot on my face, his finger tracing a circle on the table.
“I haven’t decided yet,” I answered without looking at him.
“Hmm. Want me to help you out?”
“Sure.”
He was silent for a while. “What are you most passionate about? What do you see yourself doing?”
I thought about it for a while, closing the book. “I don’t know. I’ve never thought of that till now.” A pause. “But I like art.”
“Art, hmm? Art has many forms, sweetheart. Mirror it down. What exactly do you like about art?”
“I like… I like reading a lot. Prose, poems, books. Anything literature. I tried writing once, but life happened and I had to stop. But that passion has never gone away.”
Axel pped once. “It’s settled then. We have a writer in the making. You don’t really need a degree to be a writer but there are some things you have to learn. Like English, Creative Writing, Literature-”
I turned to him, my eyes wide. “What? Just like that?”
He ced his index finger on my chin, caressing my jaw with his thumb. “You love writing, no? Even if you were never given the chance to explore that passion?” I nodded. “You still have the passion, and that is all you need to know what you ought to do. Do what you love, sweetheart. Don’t go to college chasing a career you’re not interested in. Trust me your life will be miserable.”

I looked at him. This is the first time we’ve been this close without any sexual tension hanging between us. “Did you chase a career you didn’t want?” I asked in a whisper.
He nodded. “Yeah. Father made me do it. He wanted all his sons to work in hispany, you see? So we all studied the same thing.”
“And what would you have studied if you were given the choice?”
He pulled away, looking forward and folding his hands behind his head, a small smile on his face. “I would have been a sailor.”
“A sailor?” I asked, shocked. I hadn’t expected that.
He chuckled softly. “Uh–huh. Shocking, I know. But I’m in love with the sea, you see. She’s my first love.” He looked over at me, his grin widening. “Don’t get jealous now.”
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head, but there was a small smile on his face.
“I’m utterly obsessed with her. In love with the peace that she offers. Smitten with her vast beauty. I wouldn’t even have been bothered with a degree. I would have just entered the sea and let my love and passion for her lead me. I would barely be onnd. Always on sea. But…” His smile dropped. “Expectations. Damn responsibilities I never asked for.”
Ah, so this was what serious Axel looked like. I decided I hate it. So before I knew what was happening, my hand reached out and touched his thigh. Hesitant at first, but then it rested on it. Axel slowly looked down to where I was touching him, that ck cloud still hovering over his head. Then slowly, he unfolded his hands and rested one on top of mine before interlocking our fingers.
“Is it concluded?” he asked softly.
I nodded, not needing to ask before I knew what he meant. “Yeah.”
The smile returned to his lips. He raised our joined hands and pressed a kiss to mine. “A writer in the making.” He released my hand and stood up. “I’ll bring the car around while you pack up. Meet me outside when you’re done.”
After he was gone, I still sat, not even moving an inch. For the past few days I’ve

been struggling to pick a career and he just did within an hour. I finally stood up, returning some books and borrowing some. When I came outside, his car was already waiting.
I walked to it, opening the backseat and throwing my bag there before I entered the front seat. “Do you mind if-”
My words were lost as Axel grabbed my neck and mmed his lips on mine, kissing me hard and deep. I kissed him back, my arms wrapping around his neck. He was rough with the kiss, no gentleness in it at all. But I still matched his fire.
“Rosette,” he panted as we broke the kiss to breathe, him kissing my neck and leaving marks. “I need you. Please, baby. I fucking need you.”
My eyes grew wild from panic. I tried to pull away to see if he was okay but he wouldn’t let me. “Are you okay?” His body was warm, not burning hot like that night, and he wasn’t shaking. So what was wrong?
“It’s not that,” he answered, his voice sounding tortured. “I’m not sick anymore. I just need you like a man needs a woman. I haven’t stopped thinking of that night we spent together. Not once have my mind departed from it. I’ve touched myself multiple times to the thought of it.” His hand grabbed my breast, pressing, and I wished my bra wasn’t there. “I’ve woken up craving your mouth on mine, your body pressed against mine, your lips whispering and saying my name with such devotion.”
He bit my jaw gently before he sucked on it, smoothing the pain. His lips trailed down, trailing kisses on any bare skin he could reach. “In case it wasn’t clear enough, I’m going crazy over you. I need you like a heart needs a beat. Like a fever needs release. Like a me needs oxygen.”
I was on fire. His words and touch were setting me on fire. I didn’t know what to make of those words or his desperation. Or what to even make of what I was feeling.
He leaned back so I could see his eyes, and the raw honesty. “I need you like a drowning man needs air,” he whispered, tracing my corbones.
“Why?” I finally found my voice. “Your brothers clearly try to avoid me. They try to stay away, so why?”

He leaned in and licked my lower lips, making me shiver. “Because they’re trying to do what’s right. They’re trying to be noble, but I don’t give a fuck about any of that.” He held my face, looking deep into my eyes. “But know this, Rosette, I’ll never hurt you. Never. I’ll be brought down before I ever do something like that.”
“Why would you hurt me?” I whispered.

“Because, my gorgeous darling, there are things you don’t know about. Things you shouldn’t know.”
“I want to know.”
“I’d rather you not.”
I held his face, bringing it close to mine. “Saying things like this would make me want to know even more, you fool! It would be better if you hadn’t said anything! If you hadn’t confirmed that something was going on. You should have fucking kept your mouth shut!”
He smiled. The bastard smiled! “Your anger is turning me on even more, sweetheart.” He held my hand and brought it down to touch his dick. He moaned, thrusting his hard dick into my hand. “You see? Rock hard. And for you, baby.”
I swallowed as I felt how hard he was. My anger slowly died down until there was nothing but lust behind. I looked away from him, my cheeks burning as I said, “We can’t do it here.”
I didn’t need to look to know he was smiling. “Of course. I know just the ce.”
