In her memory, Chris rarely came to thepany and didn’t like to appear by her side.
She had thought Chris simply didn’t enjoy interacting with strangers, and disliked those kinds of shy, superficial asions

“Mr. Hall’s house locks have been changed, and a new batch of security guards has been assigned,” said Shannon, cing the trash aside and standing in front of the desk. “You see, you’re trying; to hold onto Mr. Green, and at the same time, you’re taking care of Mr. Hall. Splitting your focus like this is too exhausting.”
Shannon spoke in a tactful manner, hoping Jessica would understand the message.
That night, Chris slept in the dormitory. Without Jessica by his side for once, he slept very soundly. Jake had gone home, so he was the only one in the dorm.
Later that night, Chris sensed someone approaching him. He thought it was a night shift workering to get something and didn’t pay much attention.
But a few minutester, someone slipped into his nket.
Chris was instantly startled awake.
“Who is it!”
A soft, boneless hand covered his mouth. “It’s me.”
Bathed in the moonlight from the window, he recognized the person in front of him.
“Jessica?”
Jessica seemed to have been drinking. Once she saw that Chris recognized her, she let go of his mouth and copsed directly into his arms. “Why didn’t youe home?”
Her soft, fragrant bodyy in his embrace, and Chris was so stiff he didn’t dare move.
“Why are you here?”
“You didn’te home, so of course I came to find you.” Jessica tilted her head and asked again, “Why didn’t youe home?”
Chris swallowed. “We’re already divorced. That’s not my home anymore.”
“Chris…” Jessica wrapped her arms around his neck, her warm breath brushing his ear. “I’ve missed you.”
Chris’s entire body trembled.
Just as Jessica leaned closer and her lips were about to touch his neck, her phone suddenly rang.
In an instant, Chris sobered up and gently pushed her away.
Jessica didn’t want to answer it, but the name on the phone screen lying on the bed clearly showed, “Michael“.
The two froze for a short while.
Jessica didn’te closer, nor did she continue.
Chris quietly watched, then asked, “Aren’t you going to answer it?
Jessica let go of him and picked up the phone. “If he’s calling at this hour, it must be important.”
“Hello?”
“Jessica, Jordan has a high fever again. I—I gave her medicine but it’s not working. She’s been crying, saying she wants to see you. I… I didn’t know what else I could do, so I called you.”
As he spoke, Michael brought the phone closer to the child.
Jordan’s cries sounded hoarse, as if she had been crying for a long time. She sobbed and said, “Ms. Wilder, why haven’t youe see me recently? I miss you.”
Jessica immediately stood up, grabbed the clothes from the table. I’ll have someone pick you up and bring you to the hospital. I’m already at the hospital.”
On the other end of the line, Michael frowned slightly. She was still at the hospital at this hour?
“The Summit Infirmary?”
“Yes, I’ll send someone to get you.”
Michael looked at Jordan lying on the bed, remained silent for a moment, and finally said, “No need. I’ll drive her there myself. Is Chris with you?”
“Yes, he’s with me.”
Chris was still in his pajamas, showing no sign of getting up, while Jessica had already put on a coat and was ready to head out. After ending the call, Jessica turned back and looked at Chris in surprise. “Why haven’t you changed yet?”
Chris frowned. “I’m not a pediatrician. The emergency department has doctors on duty. Just tell Michael to take the child there.”
“You’re not even going to take a look?”
“I told you—I’m not a pediatrician.”
