After arguing for what seemed like forever, the two old men finally turned their heads away
from each other, one facing east and the other west.
Well, it seemed like they were done talking to each other.
The room finally quieted down.
Just when everyone thought the battle was over, Grandpa He nced at First with an expression full of affection. “First,e over here to your great–grandfather. Let me have a
good look at you.”
First was about to walk over when William Adler cleared his throat and looked up, saying, “First,e to your great–grandfather here. I have something to tell you.”
First stopped in his tracks, unsure of which way to go.
Grandpa He, hearing this, red at William Adler and shouted, “Old Adler, are you deliberately
trying to oppose me?”
William Adler gave him a sidelong nce, wearing a look that said, “Yes, I’m doing it on purpose, and what can you do about it?” He continued, “First, have you forgotten what you promised your great–grandfather?”
First’s rosy face held an awkward, forced smile.
Was this what they called the burden of love?
But why was his treatment so different from Second and Fourth?

Blinking his innocent eyes, Alex looked at Scarlett, silently pleading for help. Scarlett, save
me!
Scarlett gave him a look that said, “You’re on your own.”
In this situation, no one dared to speak.
“Alex,e to your great–grandfather!” Grandpa Hector chimed in.
“Alex,e to your other great–grandfather!” William Adler added.
The two grandpas were about to start another round of their ongoing rivalry!
“Alex!”
“Alex!”
Alex looked at them both, knowing full well that choosing sides now would be a mistake.
Hurting either one’s feelings would be a disaster!
After a moment of thought, he pped his forehead, “I just remembered it’s Monday, and I have school. I better get going. Take care, both of you!” Without waiting for a response, he grabbed Tara’s hand and made a quick exit.
“Alex” Grandpa Hector watched his great–grandson’s retreating figure with a mix of
helplessness and regret. He hadn’t had enough time with him yet!
Seeing that neither of them seeded, William shot Grandpa Hector a nce that said, “I won’t let you have your way.”

Grandpa Hector turned away in frustration, refusing to acknowledge him any further!
What kind of friendshipsts over fifty years?
Let’s just end it!
Outside.
As the door closed, Alex nced back to make sure no one was following him. Only then did
he rx.
He took a deep breath, but before he could turn around, his ear was suddenly grabbed.
“Alex, how dare you lie to me!” Tara eximed angrily, tugging at his ear. She had been holding back her frustration for who knows how long.
“Ouch, ouch!” Alex tiptoed closer to her, trying to ease the pain.
“Ouch? You know what pain is?” Tara huffed. “I’ve been helping you for so long, and you kept
this from me. Do you have any conscience left?”
“I didn’t lie to you! How did I lie?”
“Hugo is your dad, and you dare say you didn’t deceive me?”
“I… I never said he wasn’t!”
“You-” Tara red at him, her anger growing. “Alex, don’t try to talk your way out of this. When I said you looked alike, how did you respond?”

Alex knew he had to say something to calm Tara’s fury.

Thinking quickly, he looked at her and said, “Alright, alright, my dear sister, let go first, and
then I’ll exin, okay?”
Tara was ring at him, her eyes wide with anger.
“Tara, you have to remember, you’re a beautiful woman, and beautiful women shouldn’t just
go around hitting people. Look at all these people; they’ll think you’re abusing kids!” Alex said
seriously.
Oddly enough, Tara almostughed at his words but held it back with all her might.
“Okay, okay, I know you’re upset. Just let go, and I’ll exin everything slowly,” Alex tried to
soothe her.
Tara wasn’t really using much force; she was just trying to scare him a bit, to knock down his
childish pride.
But she couldn’t resist his harmless face and earnest pleading, so eventually, she let go.
“You better have a good exnation, or else-”
“Or else what?” Alex asked, looking at her.
Tara thought for a moment, “Or else, I’ll stop being friends with you!”
Alex rubbed his ear where she’d tugged it and looked at her, “You’ve already helped me with
what I needed, and now you’re gonna end our friendship? Wouldn’t that be a loss for you?
You’re not the type to make a bad deal, Tara!”

Knowing he was trying to tter her, Tara considered his words and nodded, “You have a
point. But since that’s the case… I’ll just tell your mom about this, and guess what her
reaction will be?” She said, giving him a sly smile.
After spending so much time together, Tara knew exactly what mattered most to First.

First’s face stiffened as he clicked his tongue and looked at her. “We’re all adults here. Can

Tara smirked coldly. “Don’t try to change the subject. I know that as long as you can grab
hold of someone’s weak spot, you’ve got the upper hand!”
First thought for a moment and then shed a ttering smile. “Alright, alright, I know you’re
the toughest yet soft–hearted person. All beautiful women are like that.”
“Cut it out!”
“You’re just mad because I didn’t tell you. I didn’t mean to keep it from you!”
“Didn’t mean to?” Tara didn’t believe a word of it.
“This whole thing… it’s a long story,” First said, putting on a sad expression.
Tara remained unimpressed.
“You know I grew up in a single–parent household, right?” First asked.
“So what?”
“Well, you see, my dad… Hugo… now he’dy down his life for my mom. But back then, he left
her. My mom was already pregnant with me, and she was afraid of Hugo…”
Hodges wouldn’t let her have me, so he took me to another country. We only came back
recently because of my great–grandfather. Honestly, I never really understood the connection
between him and my great–grandfather. It was only by chance that I met him and started to
suspect…”

Listening to First’s story, Tara Green seemed to be drawn into it. “And then what?”
“Remember when I asked Quinn for help?”
“Of course!”
“I had him do a DNA test. It was with him!” First revealed.
Tara’s eyes widened in realization. “Oh, I see.” But looking at First, she quickly caught on, “So
you’ve known for a while now!”
“Let me exin slowly.” First looked at her, wondering why she was always in such a rush.
“Okay, okay, go on!” Tara said, holding back her impatience to hear the rest.
