Though his words hinted otherwise, everyone present understood the situation clearly.
William knew exactly what was going on. Hugo had been staying here for days, refusing to
leave, all for Scarlett. His intentions were obvious.
While William appreciated Hugo’s efforts, he wasn’t about to be swayed into promising his
granddaughter to him again.
Physical wounds were one thing, but emotional ones were another.
Who knew when Hugo might mess up again? William certainly wasn’t going to forgive him
easily!
Seeing through William’s thoughts, Mr. Hodges quickly tried to lighten the mood. “Alright, alright, Old Adler. The most important thing is that Scarlett is okay, right? That’s what really
matters!”
William shifted his gaze to Mr. Hodges, his eyes filled with caution.
He was an old fox, after all.
After all these years, William knew exactly what he was thinking.
“Old rascal,” William muttered under his breath.
Mr. Hodges wasn’t offended; instead, he chuckled and leaned closer. “Old Adler, I’m in a good mood today, so I won’t hold it against you. No matter what you say, I won’t get upset!”

William eyed him, trying to figure out what he meant.
Old Hodges chuckled, “I’m just like you now, officially a great–grandfather!”
Now that Scarlett Adler had acknowledged it, he didn’t have to hide or keep it a secret
anymore.
Thinking about it made him want tough out loud!
He added, “I’m the great–grandfather, and you’re the great–grandfather–inw, so you’ve got an
extra ‘inw,‘ hehe.”
William’s eyebrows furrowed instantly. “Old Hodges, what do you mean by that? I told you
before, and you said you wouldn’tpete with me. What are you getting at now?”
“Times have changed. Back then, you told me. Now, Scarlett has admitted it herself, so I don’t
have to pretend I don’t know anymore!” Old Hodges couldn’t help but smile broadly.
William turned to Scarlett, “Kiddo, you really admitted it?”
Scarlett didn’t say anything.
At this point, it was clearly unrealistic to keep it under wraps!
But watching the two old men bicker was… quite exasperating!
“Oh, don’t me Scarlett. It’s not her fault!” Old Hodges chimed in to defend her.
William wasn’t pleased at all. “I’m talking about my granddaughter here. Why are you
defending her, Old Hodges? You have ulterior motives!”

“Want to take the kid, and the granddaughter too?”
That hit the nail on the head. He did think that way, but he wouldn’t dare say it out loud.
Seeing the grin on Old Hodges‘ face, William knew he was right!
Even if Scarlett admitted it, he still had to ask if Old Hodges agreed!
William switched to full–on defensive mode. “Old Hodges, what do you mean? Are you trying
to take someone from the Adler Family? Do you have no sense of honor?”
Old Hodges stood his ground. “How am I dishonorable? Is the child only yours? Besides,
Scarlett admitted it, so why are you upset?”
“I’m upset, and let me tell you, the child belongs to the Adler Family. They carry the Adler
name, not Hodges!”
“You, you, you-” Old Hodges stared at him.
“And what has the Hodges Family done? You think you can just im them back? Even if
you’re the biological great–grandfather, the maternal great–grandfather doesn’t agree!” William
retorted.
When it came to arguing, they were both fierce fighters.
Old Mr. Hodges was momentarily at a loss for words.
“But even if the child bears thest name Ye, they’re still a Hodges Family child!” he insisted.

“Hodges Family, Hodges Family, Hodges Family! If you Hodges want a child so badly, go have
one yourselves! You think you’re so capable, then go ahead! This child came from Scarlett’s
belly. You think you can just take advantage and im what’s not yours? Think again!”
“Old Adler, if you keep this up, I won’t hold back. I’ve been patient because I don’t want to
upset you, but that doesn’t mean I’m a pushover!” Mr. Hodges retorted angrily.
“Patient? Do I need your patience?”
Mr. Hodges stared, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Years of friendship seemed to be crumbling in this moment!
First watched from the side.
It was the first time he had seen them argue so intensely. He nced over at Scarlett.
“Scarlett, should we… intervene?” First asked hesitantly.
Scarlett considered it for a moment, then shook her head. “No, let them handle their own
issues.”
First nodded in agreement, then remembered something and held up the breakfast he had
bought. “Scarlett, let’s have breakfast. It’s quieter over there.”
Scarlett nodded and headed over.
First served Scarlett her meal first, setting everything up neatly before turning his attention to
Hugo on the hospital bed,

He seemed unfazed by the usual bickering between the two old men.
When First nced over, Hugo’s gaze fixed on him.

After a moment of hesitation, First walked over and ced another breakfast in front of
Hugo, carefully opening and arranging it just like he did for Scarlett.
It was quite considerate.
Hugo watched First without saying a word, his face tense, lost in thought.
Once everything was set, Hugo’s lips curled into a small smile. “Thank you, First.”
“You’re wee,” First replied stiffly, before heading back toward Scarlett.
Scarlett watched their interaction from a short distance, her eyes flickering with an
unreadable emotion.
She lowered her head and continued eating.
After First walked away, Hugo looked at the breakfast in front of him–a simple bowl of porridge. Yet as he ate, he felt it was the best, most vorful meal he had ever had.
He was eating with big bites, a far cry from his usualposed demeanor.
First was secretly observing Hugo, noticing how happy he seemed while eating, a barely noticeable smile ying at the corners of his mouth.
Meanwhile, the two old men were still bickering.
William was clearly having the upper hand. “Old Hodges, I only told you because I felt sorry

for you, but don’t push it. Did the Hodges contribute anything? You think just because…” He
stopped short, realizing there were too many people around for such blunt words, and held
his tongue. “Don’t think that just because you contributed a little, you can im the child as a
Hodges. I’m telling you, things aren’t that easy!”
Old man Hodges was fuming, but he had to admit there was some truth to what was being
said.
Frustrated, he turned to Hugo, who was still eating, and couldn’t help but scold, “You brat! It’s
all your fault. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be in this situation. Now, I can’t even im my
great–grandson, and where am I supposed to put my old face in the future?”
