Everyone else clocks out on time, but a programmer’s quitting time is never fixed.
Around seven o’clock, Scarlett Adler and East Hayes’s project team set off together for Hodges Family Group.
As they walked to the garage to get the car, Scarlett couldn’t shake the feeling that a pair of eyes was
watching her, following her. But every time she turned around, she saw nothing.
“What’s wrong, Ms. Adler?” Brent Carter asked, noticing her unease.
“I just feel like someone is following me,” Scarlett said.
The others looked around, and Brent Carter said, “Maybe you didn’t get enough restst night? It’s probably just your imagination.”
Scarlett didn’t say much more.
“Don’t worry. With the three of us guys around, we’ll make sure nothing happens to you. Even if a suitor rushes up, we’ll definitely protect you,” Brent Carter said.
Scarlett nced at him and tossed him the keys. “You drive.”
“Alright!” Brent Carter hopped into the driver’s seat.
Seeing Scarlett settle into the back seat, Brent Carter looked at her through the rearview mirror. “Ms. Adler,
when you sit in the back, I feel like I’m just a driver.”
“You’re just a driver, what else could you be, the owner of the car?” Ethan Underwood said, pulling his seatbelt and buckling up.
Brent Carter red at him, annoyed. “If what you said didn’t make sense, I would have fallen out with you.”
“Drive, drive,” Ethan instructed.
The car then drove out of the garage.
East Hayes and Scarlett Adler were sitting in the back. The seats were indeedfortable, and Scarlett thought it was a pity not to have a driver for such a car.
While scrolling through her phone, she received a text message: “I’m in Port City. Do you want to meet up?”
Scarlett simply replied, “Leave me alone,” and then blocked the number.
At that moment, East Hayes was restless, fidgeting and looking at the documents. Scarlett was disturbed by his subtle movements and couldn’t stay still either.
She turned to him and asked, “What are you doing?”
“Me? Nothing!” East Hayes replied.
“Nervous?”

“A little.”
Hearing this, Ethan Underwood turned around to look at him. “East Hayes, it’s not like this is your first time discussing this. What’s there to be nervous about?”
“This time it’s the Hodges Family Group,” East Hayes emphasized.
“Exactly because it’s the Hodges Family Group that we need to stay calm. Anyway, the agreement is signed. Whether it seeds or not is just a matter of modification; nothing serious will happen.”
East Hayes pped him on the back of the head. “Can’t you say something positive?”
Ethan Underwoodughed. “I’m just joking to lighten the mood.” He then looked at Scarlett Adler. “Look at Ms. Adler; she has that ‘money is dirt’ kind of vibe.”
Scarlett Adler, while scrolling through her phone, casually said, “Even if it doesn’t work out today, it has nothing to do with you. It’s normal.”
“Why?” East Hayes asked.
Scarlett Adler looked at him. “Because of me.” She thought that she needed to be more direct with straight
men.
East Hayes was taken aback, and Ethan Underwood couldn’t help butugh.
“I’ve reviewed the framework and everything looks fine. If it doesn’t work out, it’s Tiana Young’s call. Don’t overthink it. This is just a slow, grinding process, so be patient.”
“Okay,” Scarlett Adler said.
Hearing this, East Hayes felt much relieved and straightened his clothes. “Then I’ll be prepared.”
Scarlett Adler didn’t even look up, as she was constantly receiving text messages, which she kept ignoring.
It took them half an hour to reach Hodges Family Group. They went straight upstairs, where someone was
waiting for them at the elevator.
“You must be from Rising Sun Tech?”
“Yes,” East Hayes nodded.
“Our Vice President is on his way back. He asked me to take you to the conference room first.”
They weren’t surprised, as they seemed to have expected this.
“Let’s go.”
Scarlett Adler followed them to the conference room.
“Please wait here for a moment. The Vice President will be back soon,” the assistant said before closing the
door.
Chapter 24 WON TU
East Hayes casually found a chair to sit on. “We had an appointment for this time, and now they say he’s on his way back. Why not set a specific time if that’s the case?”
“Alright, alright, we knew this would happen when we came. Let’s just wait,” Ethan Underwoodforted him.
Scarlett Adler, however, didn’t pay any attention and continued ying on her phone.
Meanwhile, in the underground parking garage of Hodges Family Group.
A person dressed in all ck slowly approached Scarlett Adler’s car. After standing there for a moment, the person crawled under the car and began to tamper with something.
Just then, from a car across the way, a very beautiful young woman, around twenty-five years old and dressed in trendy clothes, watched as the signal disappeared. She frowned. “I was so close to finding him!”
Tara Green said into her headset.
“Maybe she intentionally led you there.”
“True, he wouldn’t expose his location so easily,” Tara analyzed.
“Keep looking. He’s definitely in Port City.”
“Got it.”
“Also, don’t make a move until you find him. Tell me, and I’ll go meet him in person.”
Silence on the other end.
“Tara? Tara Green?”
“I’m here, I’m here.”
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Tara Green watched the scene in front of her, a smirk forming on her lips. “Nothing much, just saw a man doing something bad.”
“…A reality show?”
“This is really something bad!” Tara Green emphasized. “There’s a man fully armed, vandalizing a Rolls
Royce.”
The person on the other end of the line clearly didn’t care. “Mind your own business over there and don’t
expose your identity.”
“I know, it’s just a pity about such a nice car.”
“You want it? I’ll give it to you.”
“Can you give me something I can’t afford?”
“Like what?”
“A man.”
“I’ll set you up with a few tonight.”
“I mean, a sincere man.”
“Don’t make it difficult, be realistic.”
“Get lost.” Tara Green hung up the phone directly.
At that moment, the person under the Rolls-Royce crawled out. He stood there for a while, a wicked smile forming on his lips, before turning and leaving.
Tara Green put away her phone, thought about the scene, and remembered the instructions from the phone
call. She decided not to interfere and drove away.
Upstairs, Scarlett Adler and East Hayes had been waiting in the conference room for over half an hour.
“What a big shot. I’ve never had to wait like this at any otherpany,” Brent Carter said.
Scarlett Adler checked the time. “If they’re not here in ten minutes, we’re leaving.”
For some reason, he liked the way Scarlett spoke.
“How about a game of cards?” Ethan Underwood suggested.
“How can we y without cards?”
At that moment, Ethan Underwood mysteriously pulled a deck of ying cards from his pocket.
“No way, you carry those around with you?”
“For entertainment, you in?” Ethan Underwood asked.
Brent Carter excitedly replied, “Yeah, let’s go!”
He looked at East Hayes and Scarlett Adler.
Scarlett Adler frowned, “I’ve never yed, I don’t know how.”
“No worries, I’ll teach you,” Ethan Underwood said.
Scarlett Adler raised an eyebrow and nodded in agreement.
Seeing this, East Hayes also joined in the game.
