    “It has nothing to do with Manager Yan, let him go,” Scarlett Adler said.


    “Okay,” Hugo Hodges agreed without hesitation.


    Hugo Hodges could be quite straightforward at times, so much so that it left people unsure of how to


    proceed.


    Scarlett Adler nodded. “That’s all I wanted to say. I’m done, so I’ll be leaving now.”


    “It’s almost noon, why don’t we have lunch together?” Hugo Hodges asked. “There’s a decent restaurant


    nearby.”


    “No, I…”


    “Didn’t you say you wanted to thank me? Treat me to a meal,” Hugo Hodges said.


    Scarlett Adler paused. “…Is it really that simple?”


    Hugo Hodges nodded. “That’s all.”


    Scarlett Adler didn’t want to refuse again, so she nodded. “Alright then.”


    Hugo Hodges’ lips curved into a smile, and they walked towards the restaurant together.


    Hugo Hodges seemed to be in a good mood.


    Inside the restaurant, Hugo Hodges looked at Scarlett Adler. “Is there anything you’d like to eat?”


    “I’m not picky, anything is fine.”


    Hugo Hodges wanted to order, but he realized he didn’t even know what Scarlett Adler liked to eat.


    “I’ll take two of your specials,” Hugo said, handing the menu back to the waiter.


    Hugo Hodges looked at Scarlett Adler.


    They sat across from each other, familiar yet distant.


    They never even had a meal together when they were married, and now…it was amazing how time could


    change things.


    “How’s your injury? Is it time to change the dressing?” Hugo asked, his eyes fixed on her.


    Scarlett looked at her hand. “Almost.”


    “Then after we eat, I’ll take you to get it changed.”


    Scarlett Adler was silent.


    Hugo’s initiative made Scarlett feel strange.

    “So you’d rather something happen to you than have me intervene?” Hugo Hodges asked, staring at her.


    Scarlett Adler took a deep breath. “When we were together, I hated other women approaching you. Now, I don’t want to be that kind of person. Although I don’t like Tiana Young, I dislike the idea of bing


    someone I used to hate even more.”


    Hugo Hodges looked at her, pursing his lips without saying a word.


    “So, in the future, don’t interfere with my affairs. I can manage on my own,” Scarlett Adler said, emphasizing


    each word.


    After a long pause, Hugo Hodges suddenly sneered, “Rest assured, you won’t be that kind of person.”


    “What do you mean?”


    “Nothing,” Hugo Hodges retorted directly.


    Just then, the waiter brought their meal.


    Hugo Hodges lost his appetite for conversation and began eating, looking annoyed.


    Scarlett Adler looked at him, and when he didn’t speak, she didn’t say anything either.
