Chapter 50 Screw the misunderstanding.
However, Audrey Bet appearedposed and generous. “Ms. Adler, hello.”
Scarlett Adler stood up, looked at her, and nodded faintly. “Hello.”
“I was wondering if Ms. Adler has some time to chat with me,” Audrey Bet said.
Scarlett looked at her, considered for a moment, and then spoke. “I don’t know you well, and I don’t think we
have anything to talk about. Sorry.” It wasn’t that Scarlett was being direct, but she knew exactly what the
other woman’s intentions were.
She didn’t want to waste any time on this matter.
Unexpectedly, Tiana Young became agitated. “Scarlett Adler, where are your manners? My mom wants to have a word with you, and you’re acting like this?”
Scarlett Adler calmly looked at her. “Are you saying that if you want to talk to me, I have to agree, and I don’t
even have the right to refuse?”
“You-
Tiana!” Audrey Bet pulled her back, then said with a smile, “Ms. Adler is right; I was being presumptuous.”
‘Mom.”
Audrey Bet smiled at Scarlett Adler without saying a word, but the smile carried a hint of inquiry.
Scarlett Adler understood perfectly, simply nodding slightly to show her respect.
Just then, Hugo Hodges came out of his meeting, knowing Scarlett was waiting outside, and headed straight
for her.
Unexpectedly, he happened to witness the scene.
Tiana Young saw Hugo approaching and immediately went to him. “Hugo.”
Hugo looked at her. “Aren’t you supposed to be resting? What are you doing at the office?”
“I was passing by and came up to grab something,” Tiana replied.
At that moment, Hugo’s gaze shifted to Scarlett, who was standing nearby.
Tiana nced between them before saying, “Oh, right, Hugo, this is my mom, Audrey.”
“Mr. Hodges,” Audrey said with a smile. “Long time no see. You’re looking even more handsome.”
Hugo looked at Audrey and smiled slightly. “You’re too kind, Mrs. Bet. How have you been enjoying your stay?”
“It’s been great.”
“I wanted to invite you for a meal, but I’ve been swamped with work and haven’t had the time. Please stay a few more days, and I’ll make sure to treat you properly,” Hugo said.
“Well, how about we seize the moment and do it today?” Audrey Be suggested.
Hugo Hodges frowned, but his gaze shifted to Scarlett Adler.
“Ms. Adler, why don’t you join us as well?” Audrey Be invited.
“No, thank you,” Scarlett Adler declined straightforwardly. “I have some urgent matters at the office that I
need to attend to.”
Then, looking at Hugo Hodges, she added, “Since Mr. Hodges is busy, let’s reschedule for another day.” With a
nod, she stood up and left.
For some reason, watching Scarlett Adler’s retreating figure, Hugo Hodges felt an indescribable sensation in
his heart.
It was as if letting her go would cause her to disappear, just like she had years ago.
“Auntie, I’m afraid I won’t be able to join you for dinner today. I’ll personally host a dinner for you another
time.” Without waiting for them to say anything further, Hugo Hodges headed directly in Scarlett Adler’s
direction.
“Hugo!” Tiana Young called out, but Hugo Hodges didn’t even turn his head.
Tiana Young stood there, wondering if she had missed something.
Had it only been two days since she wasst at the office? Why did Hugo Hodges seem so different?
What had happened between them?
Audrey Bet maintained the smile on her face, looked at Tiana Young, and ced a hand on her shoulder. “Tiana, no matter how unhappy you are, don’t show it on your face, or people willugh at you.”
Tiana nced around, wanting to force a smile, but she couldn’t.
“Mom, what should I do? I feel like he’s drifting further and further away from me…” Tiana whispered.
“This is nothing. There are many days ahead. Have you forgotten what I told you?” Audrey asked.
Tiana looked at her, a glimmer of light igniting in her eyes.
“But this Scarlett Adler is not a simple character. You need to be careful in the future,” Audrey cautioned.
Tiana nodded.
Outside thepany.
“Scarlett Adler,” Hugo said as he stepped forward and stopped her.
Scarlett turned around, looking at him with a hint of surprise. “Why are you out here?”

Hugo Hodges took a deep breath, looking directly at her. “Didn’t you say you needed to talk to me about
something?”
Scarlett Adler nced inside. “Won’t you… cause misunderstandingsing out like this?”
Forget the misunderstandings.
Hugo Hodges didn’t care at all.
He grabbed her hand and started walking.
“Where are you taking me?” Scarlett Adler asked, looking at him.
“Didn’t you say you needed to talk to me? Let’s find a quiet ce where we can talk slowly.”
Scarlett Adler was speechless.
She clearly had serious business to discuss, but somehow he was making her feel… strange.
However, seeing Hugo Hodges holding her hand, Scarlett Adler felt as if something was gently brushing against her heart.
“Hugo Hodges,” Scarlett Adler said, pulling her hand back. “What I need to say is simple. I’ll say it and leave.”
Hugo Hodges turned back, his dark eyes fixed on her. After a moment, he said, “Alright, then tell me.”
“Is it you who did what happened to Kane Jennings?” Scarlett Adler asked.
Hugo Hodges nodded. “It was me.”
His straightforward admission left Scarlett Adler momentarily speechless.
“Then Manager Yan…”
“Is also me.” Hugo Hodges interrupted before Scarlett could finish. “Anything else?”
Scarlett looked up, unsure of what to say. The words she had prepared on her way here seemed useless now.
“Why?” Scarlett couldn’t help but ask.
“What do you think… is the reason?” As he spoke, Hugo stepped forward, his tall figure looming over Scarlett, creating an invisible pressure that made her feel suffocated.
Scarlett pursed her lips, hesitating for a few seconds. “Regardless of the reason, I should thank you.”
“How do you want to thank me?” Hugo asked, his eyes fixed on her, leaving Scarlett nowhere to hide.
“You can name your terms,” Scarlett replied, maintaining a professional demeanor.
“Alright, I’ll let you know when I’ve made up my mind.” Hugo Hodges was definitely the type to quit while he was ahead.
“I wanted to talk to you about Manager Yan. Actually, what happened has nothing to do with him,” Scarlett Adler said.

Hugo Hodges was dismissive. “If he hadn’t arranged it, you wouldn’t have gone through that.” Even now, Hugo Hodges was still angry and scared. He couldn’t imagine how terrible the consequences would have been if he
hadn’t been there.
“The person was changed at thest minute. Originally, someone else was supposed to handle it, but somehow it was switched to Kane Jennings. Although I haven’t been with Rising Sun for long, I know a bit about Manager Yan. When you and Tiana Young came to thepany, he warned me again not to get

involved with you two. If he were really that kind of person, he would have encouraged or hinted at something happening between us, instead of pushing me to Kane Jennings.”
Hugo Hodges listened, his eyes clouded.
“So?”
