Chapter 36 Indirectly encouraging
What if?

It was just that “what if” that was too likely to be true.
All signs pointed to Hugo Hodges being their dad.
Even First was surprised by this strong intuition.
Seeing First’s silence, Second cautiously approached him, “You… you don’t already know the results, do you?”
Second felt his heart pounding as he asked the question.
Fourth also looked at him upon hearing this.
Their eyes were filled with both anticipation and worry.
After a long while, First finally spoke, “It takes time for the delivery to arrive, let alone the time needed for
testing.”
Second and Fourth both sighed in relief.
“Don’t scare people like that for no reason,” Second said, patting his chest in relief.
“You two have to promise me that no matter if Hugo Hodges is our dad or not, you will always stand by
Mom’s side,” First said.
“That’s a given!” Second said. “There’s no need to even consider or hesitate.”
Fourth nodded seriously as well. “Although I really like the idea of having a dad, I really, really like it, Mom is
irreceable in my heart. No one can ever take Mom’s ce in my heart.”
The three of them were very clear about Scarlett Adler.
Only they knew how she had raised them single-handedly, enduring countless scornful looks and insults.
They remembered the endless days and nights when they were sick or had fallen and hurt themselves.
Therefore, no matter how good Daddy was, he could never rece Scarlett Adler.
Hearing their promise, First nodded in satisfaction. “If that’s the case, then I’ll allow you to like him.”
The three little ones didn’t dare go straight home; instead, they returned to school.
Just a few minutes after they arrived, William Adler came to pick them up. The three pretended that nothing
had happened and went home with William.
The timing was perfect; even a few minutester would have been toote.
In the car, Fourth Adler looked at William cheerfully. “Grandpa, how is your friend’s health?”
William smiled. “Much better, nothing to worry about.”
“That’s good.” Fourth nodded. “Grandpa, you need to take care of yourself too.”
“Okay.” William looked at Fourth with affection. This child was so lovable.
“Don’t worry, Grandpa’s health is being taken care of by Scarlett, so nothing will happen. He’ll be with us
forever,” Second Adler added.
First nodded in agreement. “Yes.”
Listening to the three little ones chatting away, William Adler was very amused.
He imagined how Old Hodges would react if he knew about these three. He would definitely love them and try
to snatch them away.
Just thinking about it made life seem more enjoyable.
It was just a pity…
Old Hodges, he didn’t know whether to say he was lucky or not!
Scarlett Adler went home and took a nap. By the time she woke up and came out of her room, dinner was
almost ready.
Seeing the three little ones in the living room, Scarlett walked over and plopped down on the couch, aszy
as a cat.
The three little ones immediately gathered around her, massaging her shoulders and legs, being very
attentive.

“Scarlett,” Fourth Adler said, his eyes twinkling like stars.
“What is it?” Scarlett’s voice wasnguid.
“How’s it going with our school principaltely?” Fourth asked.
Scarlett frowned, almost forgetting about him. “Nothing’s going on.”
“You haven’t contacted each other since?”
“I don’t think I’ve heard from him since that meal,” Scarlett Adler said truthfully.
“Don’t you like our principal?” Fourth asked.
“He’s handsome, sure, but I wouldn’t say I like him to that extent,” Scarlett replied.
“So, Scarlett, what type of guy do you like?” Fourth inquired.
Suddenly, Hugo Hodges’s face shed through Scarlett’s mind for some reason.
“Ugh, what was that?”
“That must be a hallucination from the past.”
Scarlett shook her head and said, “Someone nice, with good character, that’s all.”
That was different enough from Hugo, right?
“Well, our principal fits your requirements perfectly.”
“But he hasn’t reached out to me, so clearly, he’s not interested,” Scarlett said, shrugging.

Fourth frowned. “We haven’t seen the principal at school since he had that meal with you, Scarlett.”
Scarlett frowned. “Really?”
Fourth nodded.
“Come to think of it, I haven’t seen him for a few days either,” Second added.
First remained silent, as he was never interested in such matters.
“There must be something going on then,” Scarlett Adler murmured, not paying much attention to it.
“It’s okay, Scarlett. If you and our school principal aren’t meant to be, I’ll introduce you to someone else,”
Fourth said with a smile.
Scarlett Adler tilted her head, looking at her daughter. “Alright, then Mommy’s happiness rests on your
shoulders.”
“Definitely!” Fourth Adler replied earnestly.
Scarlett Adler had never relied on herself anyway.
At that moment, William Adler, having finished cooking, looked at the scene in the living room and couldn’t
help but say, “People usually spoil their kids, but it’s the other way around with you. Your kids are spoiling
you.”
“I can’t help it. I’m just that fortunate,” Scarlett Adler said, her face full of pride.
“Alright,e and eat quickly.”
Scarlett Adler stretchedzily. “Let’s go, time to eat.”
The family was filled with joy and harmony.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Inside the hospital.
Hugo Hodges found it strange to see the old man obediently taking his medicine.
But the next moment, he saw him pick up a sweet from the table and put it in his mouth, causing him to
frown. “Where did that sweete from?”

“A kid who looks just like you gave them to me,” Grandpa Hodges said with a smile.

Hugo Hodges took it as a joke and didn’t think much of it. “Eat less candy; it’s not good for your health.”
Grandpa Hodges rolled his eyes at him. “Don’t lecture me. If I don’t have candy, I won’t take my medicine. Also,
find out where they sell this kind of candy and buy me more.”
Hugo nced at the colorful candy wrappers and said casually, “It’s just stuff to please kids.”
“Can’t you treat me like a kid and humor me? You know I don’t like taking medicine, yet you force me to. If you
had given me candy earlier, wouldn’t I have taken my medicine willingly?” Grandpa Hodges retorted,
exasperated.
Hugo couldn’t argue with him and nodded. “Alright, I’ll buy you someter.”
“That’s more like it.” The old man ate his candy, nced at him, and after a long pause, suddenly asked,
“When are you nning to add to the Hodges Family?”
“Add what?” Hugo yed dumb.
“Of course, add a great-grandchild to the Hodges Family!”
Hugo was speechless.
“Let me tell you, today I saw a child who looks just like you, as if you were made from the same mold. If you
hadn’t broken up with Scarlett…”
“Divorced, now the child must be quite grown,” Grandpa Hodges said, his heart itching at the thought of the
little one.
However, mentioning this made Hugo Hodges think of the twins Scarlett Adler had aborted, and his heart
immediately felt heavy, as if something was weighing on it.
