The old man turned back to the nurse, his expression pleading. “Youngdy, if you let me off, I’ll let

    too.”

“I can’t let you off if you don’t take your medicine!” the nurse replied.

Old man He was helpless. He wasn’t trying to make things difficult, but taking medicine was just too painful

    for him!

Watching from the side, First thought for a moment, then took the medicine from the nurse. “Give it to me.”

The nurse was taken aback. “But…”

    “Trust me,” First said.

Old man He didn’t know what he was up to. First took the medicine, walked over to him, and said, “Grandpa

He, the medicine is bitter, but the heart that wants you to take it is sweet. If you take the medicine, I’ll give

you a sweet, so it won’t be bitter at all.”

    Uh…

So young, but already so smooth with his words.

Old man He looked at him, a bit unsure. “Are you sure?”

    First nodded. “I’m sure.”

Old man He couldn’t let himself be coaxed into taking medicine by a child, or he’d lose face.

After thinking for a moment, he took the medicine from his hand, tossed it into his mouth, and quickly took a

    gulp of water.

The way he struggled to take the medicine was just like Second Adler.

Hiding in the corner, Second Adler watched, his face mirroring the same pained expression.

    ??? ??????

    It was just too hard!

As the old man’s face contorted in pain, First pulled out a sweet from who knows where and immediately

handed it to Old man He.

Sure enough, after eating the candy, the bitterness was really lessened.

Mr. Hearst’s facial expression improved considerably.

The nurse, seeing this, finally sighed in relief, her task of administering the medicine was finallyplete.

“Thank you, little one,” the nurse said, looking at the old man. “I won’t disturb your conversation any longer; I

have other things to attend to.” With that, the nurse left with a light step.

At that moment, Mr. Hearst sat down on a nearby bench, looking at First with a sense of nostalgia,

reminiscent of his younger days with Hugo Hodges.

“How is it? Not so bitter now, is it?” First asked.

Mr. Hearst smiled. “Yes, it’s not bitter anymore.”

Then, First pulled out a handful of candies from his pocket, the kind wrapped in colorful paper, each one

    small and translucent.

“Mr. Hearst, here, take these. Eat one whenever you have to take medicine, and it won’t be bitter anymore.”

Mr. Hearst looked at the handful of candies. “Do you like eating candy so much that you carry so many

    around with you?”

“No, I have a younger brother who doesn’t like taking medicine either, so I always carry them with me,” First

    exined.

Mr. Hearst nodded, then suddenly remembered something. “Little one, do you know me?”

First Adler paused for a moment, then shook his head. “No, I don’t.”

“Then how did you know myst name?” Mr. Hearst asked.

“The nurse called you that just now,” First replied.

Grandpa Hearst nodded in approval. “You’re just like my grandson, handsome and smart.” He couldn’t resist

reaching out to pat the boy’s head.

As Grandpa Hearst touched First, he felt an indescribable sensation.

It was as if a warm hand covered his heart, warming his entire being.

    First gave a rare smile.

Just then, his phone beeped. He knew it was Second urging him.

“Grandpa Hearst, my family is waiting for me. I have to go now. Remember to take your medicine and don’t

worry those who care about you.”

Grandpa Hearst smiled and nodded. “Alright, alright, you go on home. Don’t keep your family waiting.”

First nodded, reluctantly nced at Grandpa Hearst, and turned to leave.

Grandpa Hearst sat on the bench, watching his back, feeling a sense of detachment from the world.

As soon as they reached the corner, Second looked at First. “Fourth sent a message. Hugo Hodges ising

    back.”

    “Are they together?” First asked.

    “It seems so,” Second replied.

First thought for a moment. “Let’s leave here.”

So, the two quickly went downstairs.

“I wasn’t alone. I came with my brother to visit someone, but they went to stand in line, so I was waiting

here… and then I met you, Uncle!” Fourth’s voice was cheerful as she spoke.

Hugo’s lips curved into a smile. “Remember, be careful when you’re alone in the future.”

    “Okay, I will, Uncle.”

Just then, Fourth’s phone beeped. She picked it up and looked at it. “Uncle, my brother is waiting for me

    outside. I should go now.”

“Alright, be careful on your way.”

“Okay!” Fourth nodded vigorously, gave a bright smile, and turned to leave.

Hugo watched Fourth until she disappeared from sight before turning to go upstairs.

Tiana Young, who was beside him, hesitated for a long time before jokingly saying, “Don’t you think Fourth is

a bit too mature for her age? Her behavior is beyond what’s expected of someone her age.”

Hugo continued walking, and after a long pause, he said, “Smart kids are always seen that way.”

    Tiana was speechless.

Hugo’s protectiveness stirred a slight displeasure in Tiana’s heart. It wasn’t directed at Fourth, but she

couldn’t help but feel that Fourth’s attitude toward others was drastically different from how she treated

Hugo. In front of Hugo, she was well-behaved and adorable, but in front of her, or even the couple, the look in

her eyes was not that of a child.

She didn’t believe Hugo couldn’t see these things, but his protectiveness made her feel inexplicably strange.

Thinking about it, Tiana decided to investigate Fourth’s identity.

The three kids met up at the hospital entrance and took a taxi back.

On the way, First looked at Fourth. “You went out with Hugo again?”

Fourth didn’t deny it, nodding. “He helped me out today and even took me for some dessert.” As she spoke,

the corners of her mouth turned up in a boastful smile.

Seeing her happy expression, First frowned. “Do you like him that much?”

“Yes,” Fourth nodded, not denying it at all.

    “What about Mommy?” First asked.

“I love Mommy too, and I don’t think there’s any conflict there,” he said.

“But if you had to choose between the two, who would you pick?” First asked.

    GER

Fourth Adler frowned, displeased. “Only kids make choices like that. I want both.”

“Don’t give me that. If you absolutely had to choose?” First pressed. He wouldn’t allow anyone to undermine

Scarlett Adler’s position in their hearts.

Fourth looked down, then mumbled, “I’d definitely choose Mommy, no question about it. But Daddy is still

Daddy. Can’t I still like him even if we can’t be together?” Fourth sounded a bit aggrieved.

“If something bad happened between them, and we couldn’t have it both ways, that’s something we’d have to

    face,” First said.

    Fourth fell silent.

Then Second spoke up, “Alright, alright, nothing’s been decided yet. What if he’s not the one?”
