Shattered 308

“Every time she heard someone was carrying Brendon’s child, she’d make a scene. Her methods were extreme, but she did it for you.”

“You shouldn’t have brought Larissa into this family.”

Madam’s final words struck true–nothing destroys family harmony like an illegitimate child. Wesley’s blind indulgence of Larissa, all because she’d once saved him, had gone too far.

“If you truly care about Ci’s wellbeing, stay away from now on.

    Wesley’s throat felt parched.

    He looked rather disheveled.

After several seconds, he spoke again. “The Johnson family’s affairs…”

    Madam’s expression remainedposed.

Holden’s situation had already been exined by Johan.

Though grief–stricken, she knew dwelling changed nothing.

    Stabilizing thepany mattered most now.

“I’ll manage the Johnson family affairs temporarily. Once Johan recovers, he’ll take over.”

    Madam had her own ns.

Wesley nodded, casting onest lingering look at the hospital room before turning away.

Johan’s assistant approached, draping a coat over Madam’s shoulders. “Madam.”

    “To thepany.”

In her youth, Madam had helped her husband run the business–a formidable businesswoman.

Later, the couple retired after handing thepany to their eldest son. Then tragedy struck: their eldest son’s family perished. Bruce sumbed to heartbreak soon after. To avoid painful memories, Madam rarely stayed in Aetherton.

This time, she had no choice but to step in.

Fortunately, age hadn’t dimmed her resolve.

After dealing with a few troublemakers, the rest fell in line.

Seated in the limousine, Madam massaged her temples.

    “Age catches up,” she sighed.

The assistant replied respectfully, “You’re as formidable as ever, Madam.”

Rubbing her forehead, she asked, “Still no sign of him?”

    “No.”

Exhaustion etched her face. She’d raised all three children herself, treating them equally. Never had she imagined they’d turn against each other.

And Johan–that boy knew everything yet stayed silent.

Did he truly see her as such a useless grandmother?

    “Keep searching.”

    Madam instructed her assistant.

Though Holden hadmitted unforgivable crimes, Madam still wanted him found, dead or alive.

She sighed, thoughts drifting to Cecilia. That poor granddaughter of hers-the Johnson family’s firstborn granddaughter who’d never known a day offort.

The thought stirred resentment toward Johan.

If he knew Cecilia was his blood sister, why hadn’t he told the family sooner? Then Cecilia might’ve been spared such pain.

“Send two people to take over her studio. I heard she has a production line under the Carlton Group. Find her a new one.”

If they were cutting ties, they’d cut them clean.

    The Johnsons could afford Cecilia.

The assistant noted each instruction, then hesitated, eyeing Madam’s weary expression.

    “Speak.”

    Her tone was sharp.

The assistant lowered his voice. “The second madam and the third master’s wife have arrived. They’re on their way to the hospital.”

Madam massaged her temples. “To the hospital.”

    Hospital.

Johan’s hospital room buzzed with tension.

Larissa stood fearfully in a corner, silent.

A slender middle–aged woman wore white mourning robes and a long mourning hood.

This was Holden’s widow–dressed head–to–toe in funeral white.

“He is your uncle after all, how can you be so cruel, forcing him to jump into the river before you stop?”

“A good family, all ruined by you.”

Aunt was sobbing uncontrobly, her eyes filled with hatred.

Johan was half–leaning on the bed, his face terribly pale, “Aunt, didn’t you know that uncle killed my parents back then?”

Aunt stiffened, but quickly regainedposure, tears streaming down her face, “You say it’s him, but do you have proof?”

“I think you’re just making excuses to kill him on purpose.”

“How do you expect us orphans and widows to survive?”

??Uncle Samuel Jones Cheng sighed beside him. “Johan, even if Second Uncle did something wrong, you should’ve discussed it with us. How could you secretly cause his death?”

“Don’t scold him. Johan’s still injured.”

Aunt Sophia Cheng gently intervened. “Besides, Mother’s here. She’ll handle this.”

Her voice remained soft–spoken, gentle as always.

Samuel fell silent at his wife’s words.

But Second Aunt wouldn’t relent. “Now that my husband’s dead,” she

Sophia retreated two steps, not daring to speak further.
