Shattered 301

    Chapter301

Her voice trembled in prayer. “Johan–you must pull through. Don’t leave me behind.”

All This Should Have Been Larissa’s

Corrine’s knife struck Johan two centimeters from his heart. Had she pushed deeper, Johan would’ve died.

Fortunately, Johan proved fortunate and survived the surgery, now confined to intensive care.

Only then did Cecilia’s anxiety begin to ease.

Peering through the ss at Johan’s unconscious form, chaotic thoughts swirled–images of Johan’s carefree grin ovepping with Corrine’s smiling face.

The mental whish brought a throbbing headache and rising nausea.

“Cecilia, go rest. Larissa will watch over Johan.”

Wesley’s voice rasped as his hands settled on–Cecilia’s shoulders.

They’d waited outside seven hours during Johan’s surgery.

    Exhaustion weighed on everyone.

Cecilia, pregnant, should’ve rested long ago.

She didn’t turn, speaking with chilling calm: “Wesley, let me go.”

    His palms flinched. “Cecilia.”

He kept his tone patient, gentle. “You need rest. Listen to me–go home, shower, sleep.”

“Wesley, I mean it. Seeing you irritates me. It hurts.”

Cecilia voiced her disgust without hesitation.

“You tell me to sleep, but with Corrine missing… how could I?”

Her eyes were still swollen and red, exhaustion radiating from her entire body.

She worried about Corrine, and she worried about Johan.

Larissa stood on the other side of Wesley, dabbing fake tears: “Cecilia, I’ll watch over your brother here. Don’t worry. I’ll let you know when he wakes up.”

Cecilia’s voice was t: “I’ve called the police.”

    “Called the police?”

It took Larissa several seconds to understand what Cecilia meant.

    She instinctively looked at Wesley.

Wesley’s expression remained unchanged. He just gripped Cecilia’s wrist: “Ci, you’re tired. You need rest.”

Cecilia stayed silent. She didn’t know whether Wesley believed Larissa’s im that Corrine had tried to kill herself by rolling into the river, but she certainly didn’t.

So she left everything to the police,

Soon, Larissa was taken away by police for questioning, and they went to the riverbank where it happened.

    Cecilia insisted on going along.

She wanted to see the oue with her own eyes.

Wesley just gave her a deep look and agreed.

After examining the scene, police could only confirm the spot was dangerously prone to falls. They even ran several simtions.

The chance of being pushed and rolling into the river was fifty percent.

So whether Corrine fell in attempting suicide or was pushed by Larissa remained unverifiable.

Besides, Corrine still hadn’t been found

The only charge against Larissa would be assault.

And since Corrine attacked Johan first, Larissa’s push was protecting Johan, making the charge even lighter.

She would likely avoid jail time.

Unless Corrine lived to testify that Larissa pushed her into the water.

Cecilia stood by the riverbank, the air humid with the smell of mud.

    She couldn’t ept this oue.

“Ci, this is the police investigation’s conclusion,”

Wesley said, gently draping his coat over Cecilia’s shoulders. “Let’s go

    home.”

    “Wesley, I don’t believe it.”

Cecilia watched the rushing currents, her heart churning like the turbulent water.

    She refused to believe.

Corrine had ovee her trauma and was preparing to study abroad.

    How could shemit suicide?

    “You need rest.”

Wesley thought Cecilia was too devastated by Corrine’s death.

Her nerves were frayed, clinging stubbornly to denial.

    Cecilia stayed silent.

Regardless, Larissa remained under suspicion for murder.

“Wesley,” she said, looking him in the eye, her voice t.

“You asked me back because of Corrine.

Now she’s gone. It’s over between us.

Cecilia was gone, so there was no need for her to keep dealing with him.

Wesley’s thin lips parted slightly, wanting to say something to make her stay–but the words wouldn’te.

    After all, Ci was right.

He’d shamelessly used Corrine to threaten her into remarrying him

    back then.

    Now, her weakness was gone.

    Unless… he brought Corrine back.

“I’ll move out of Chaston Vi with Gwendolyn as soon as possible.”

“Ci, must it be this way?”

    Wesley clenched his fist.

They’d actually gotten along quite well during this time together.

    They could’ve made it work.

“I never wanted to marry you in the first ce. This ending was always meant for us.”

Cecilia finished speaking and walked to the car.

Larissa sat inside, wearing a pitiful expression–but beneath that pitiful look was pure provocation.
