Shattered 191

Wesley’s eyes darkened. He knew she was thinking about drawing a clear line.

    But he was unwilling.

“It’s a gift from Grandpa to the child. Just ept it,” he urged.

He picked up a piece of rib for Cecilia. “Eat more.”

Cecilia didn’t touch the rib. She just looked at Wesley, her gaze full of irony.

Did he think that with the shares, she would keep the child?

Wesley’s eyes grew darker. She wanted nothing to do with the Carlton family, so she could leave cleanly.

Amelia grew even more displeased. She pointed at Cecilia and scolded, “You don’t get to be so picky here.”

She didn’t want Cecilia to get five percent of the shares, but now that Cecilia refused, she was even more upset.

It was as if Cecilia thought she was too good for those five percent.

What a piece of work, honestly.

    Cecilia was speechless/

After thinking for a moment, Amelia said to Frank, “And Larissa is your granddaughter too. You should treat them equally. Whatever Cecilia gets, Larissa should get too.”

If it’s about being disgusting, she’s just as good at it.

    Sure enough, Frank’s expression darkened.

    “How can shepare to Ci?”

“Ci is carrying a Carlton family child. What use is she?”

    Frank didn’t like Larissa.

It was Larissa who had upset Bonnie, which led to Bonnie’s death.

He felt ufortable and scolded Wesley, “It’s all your fault. You insisted on bringing her to me back then.”

    It was truly disgusting.

Whenever Frank mentioned Larissa, even his most stable emotions would unravel.

It was only then that Cecilia realized how unwee Larissa was in the Carlton family.

But then again, with Wesley around, the opinions of others didn’t

    matter.

Amelia shot Cecilia a cold nce. “At least Larissa was officially acknowledged at the family banquet. Cecilia is already divorced from Wes, and even if she’s pregnant, that child is still illegitimate.”

She would never acknowledge the child in Cecilia’s womb.

“That’s enough.” Frank’s face darkened. “This five percent share is a personal gift from me. It has nothing to do with you.”

Amelia mmed her utensils down and left.

The meal ended in a cloud of depression.

In the end, Cecilia still refused the shares.

On the way back, she and Wesley sat on opposite sides, neither saying a word.

During the ride, her phone rang twice.

    Cecilia didn’t answer either call.

Eventually, she simply put her phone on silent.

When they returned to Chaston Vi, Wesley went to take a shower while Cecilia took her phone out to the balcony.

    She called the number back.

On the other end, someone asked, “We have information that you’ve scheduled an abortion. Can youe in for a check–up next Monday?”

Cecilia closed her eyes and answered softly, “Okay.”

She hung up, her palm resting on her lower abdomen.

    “I’m sorry.”

Tears welled up in her eyes, filled with deep reluctance.

    But she had no choice.

She had once wanted a child, had wanted to be a mother.

But now, she couldn’t do it anymore.

She couldn’t allow herself to have a weakness.

She couldn’t let herself be trapped by those around her again.

wish–she had to take it back.

And for Bonnie’s death, she had to seek justice from Larissa.

The early autumn night carried a chill.

By the time Wesley came looking for her, she was already enveloped in coldness.

Wesley took her hand, his eyes weary. “Why have you been out here so long?”

Cecilia gathered all her thoughts and turned to go back inside.

    “Go get some rest.”

“Ci.” Wesley looked at her thin back, his voice steady.

Cecilia turned to look at him.

Wesley walked up to her, his fingers brushing her soft check. “Did you leave Noah with Madam Wilkinson to guard against me?”

He asked bluntly, lips pressed together, his eyes clouded with an unreadable emotion.

The warm light fell on Cecilia’s face as she looked up at Wesley, exining calmly.

“I don’t have the ability to raise him right now, so I asked Madam Wilkinson for help.”

Wesley’s expression softened a little. “I have that ability, Ci. Why won’t you consider me?”

He was probing, hoping for a clue.

Cecilia gave a cold, bitter smile. “I don’t dare.”

Bonnie and Noah–Wesley had used both to manipte her before. Even the child in her belly was just a bargaining chip.

How could she possibly entrust Noah to Wesley?

For a few seconds, Wesley couldn’t breathe.

He could hear the resentment in her words.

    “Ci.”

Cecilia cut him off. “You finally have some free time. Go get some

    rest.”

She took her clothes and went to the bathroom.

As the door closed, her heart pounded in her chest.
