Shattered 20

After packing her stuff, Prisci suddenly looked over.

Larissa and Wesley were standing together-one in a white dress, the other in a suit. They made a striking pair.

But Prisci wasn’t paying attention to that.

    She closed the box.

“Prisci.” Larissa walked over, her eyes red. “I never meant to take your ce.”

Prisci picked up the box and said with a shrug, “Anyway, it’s yours now.”

It was like with Wesley. Whether Larissa tried to take him or not, he always cared about her.

“Wes, you gotta talk some sense into Prisci and get her to stay.” Larissa turned to Wesley, almost begging. “If it’s because of me, I can work somewhere else.”

She bit her lip and added, “Besides, Prisci knows way more about this stuff than I do.”

Wesley looked indifferent. He had made up his mind to teach Prisci a lesson. There was no way he was going to ask her to stay.

“You’ve been learning from Ms. Bowen for three years. You can totally handle being the R&D director.”

Then he nced at Prisci. “She has never even had any real training in making perfumes. How can she be in charge of this?”

The biting sarcasm hit Prisci hard, right in front of everyone.

She turned pale, and it felt like someone had stabbed her heart, with the pain going right to her bones.

She knew she wasn’t as important to Wesley as Larissa, but she didn’t realize he thought so little of her that he could humiliate her in front of everyone.

“Don’t talk like that. Prisci is really good at her job,” Larissa said, getting a little mad, her pretty eyebrows all scrunched up.

Wesley sneered, “You’re always worrying about her, but she doesn’t care at all.”

Prisci forced a smile back onto her face. “I guess I can leave now that you’re done talking.”

She walked away, holding the box.

As she got to the elevator, she heard Wesley’s deep voice behind her. “Prisci, if you say sorry and swallow your pride, I can give you the deputy director’s job.”

It sounded like he was doing her a huge favor.

She turned around and looked at him down the hallway. She said coolly, “No, thanks.”

Then she got into the elevator.

The doors shut, and it started going down.

Wesley stood there, looking at the empty hallway. For some reason, he felt like he had lost something important.

    It felt weird to him.

Back at Chaston Vi, Prisci started packing her stuff, nning to move out as soon as possible.

She knew her divorce from Wesley was a matter of time.

It was better to leave on her own terms than to be kicked out.

When it was time for dinner, Wesley came back home.

He looked around but didn’t see Prisci anywhere, so he asked the maid.

The maid quickly said, “Mrs. Carlton is in the study.”

Wesley went upstairs to the study.

He opened the door and saw Prisci sitting in a wicker chair by the window.

She was holding a book, with her long hair softly draped over her shoulders. The setting sun streamed through the window, painting her in a warm, orange light.

It made Wesley feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Prisci was reading a book about making perfumes. Suddenly, a shadow fell over her, and she felt Wesley’s breath on her lips.

She was a little taken aback but calmly turned her head to avoid the kiss.

Wesley didn’t get mad. He slid his hand under her knees, lifted her up a bit, and moved her over so he could squeeze into the chair with her,

The chair wasn’t very big. It was just right for one person, but with two people in it, it was ufortably tight.

Prisci got up to leave, but Wesley pushed her back down.

“Wesley?” She looked at him in confusion.
