Shattered 13

Prisci’s great hatred vanished as the face of Bonnie Wilburn, her grandmother, emerged in her mind.

She looked up at the ceiling, tears streaming down her cheeks.

A wave of sadness washed over her.

She had lost her baby. But her so-called family had never bothered to ask if she was in pain.

They med her for making Larissa cry.

Her baby was nothingpared to Larissa’s tears.

After what felt like ages, she finally pulled herself together. Her eyes were red and sore.

She called Bonnie, saying she was on a business trip and would go home once she was back.

Bonnie was obviously delighted. She reminded Prisci to take care, her words filled with affection for Prisci.

For the first time over the past few days, Prisci felt warm. At least someone still cared about her-such a realization brought sce to her wounded heart.

Prisci was hospitalized for half a month, and Wesley stayed by her side every day.

He took care of her meticulously.

When conducting Prisci’s health assessment, Sarah couldn’t help but sigh with envy, “Not many men in this wor could be as devoted as Mr. Carlton these days.”

Wesley had never gotten close to any woman. In fact, he had never had a female assistant.

Most of the men in his circle were yboys. Compared to them, he was simply the paragon of masculinity.

Prisci didn’t respond. Sarah had no idea-she was never the woman Wesley had been devoted to.

“How are the results?” She changed the subject.

Sarah had already finished reviewing the report, and she frowned at once.

“Is there a problem?” Prisci grew nervous.

cing the report next to Prisci’s hand, Sarah said, “Your abdomen endured a severe trauma. Besides, you drenched in the rain for so long. I’m afraid … the chances of you conceiving are slim.”

Prisci stared nkly at the paper. She recognized every word, but somehow, she couldn’t understand what

    meant.

Her voice trembled. “Are you saying … I can never be a mother?”

Sarah sighed with pity, “You’re young. Maybe there’s still hope with proper care and recovery.”

Prisci’s tears fell, soaking the paper.

“Mrs. Carlton…” Sarah looked at her worriedly.

“I want some time alone.” Prisci walked to the door with the report in hand. “Could you please keep this a secret for me? Don’t tell Wesley.”

“But…” Sarah was in a quandary. After all, Wesley had hired her to take care of Prisci. She didn’t want to fail her duty.

Prisci clutched the paper tightly. “I’ll find a chance and tell him myself.”

    “Alright.” Sarah nodded.

She knew rich people took heirs very seriously. Now that Prisci couldn’t get pregnant again, it’d be a heavy blow to her status in the Carlton family.

Perhaps that was why Prisci intended to keep it a secret.

Prisci went back to the ward, carefully folded the report, and tucked it into her pocket. She closed her eyes, reliving that night when the rain soaked through everything as she struggled.

When Prisci was discharged from the hospital, Wesley told her he had to deal with some urgent matter and couldn’t make it. He had his assistante over and pick her up.

After going home and getting changed, Prisci went to the Wilburn family’s home.

    She missed Bonnie so much.

As she reached the door to the living room, she heardughter.

What came into her view was Wesley and Larissa sitting side by side, whereas Tania and ude sat on the sofa across from them.

They wereughing and chatting, and the atmosphere was so harmonious.

Instead of stepping inside, she turned around and was about to head to Bonnie’s room.

    But a maid saw her.

    “Ms. Prisci, you’re back.”

The chatter in the living room ceased abruptly.

Prisci tilted her body and stopped in her tracks.
