Zacharias was confident. He was certain Anneliese regretted the divorce, that hearing of Coral’s abortion had shaken her resolve. Otherwise, why would she have asked to meet him? And he believed that the divorce had only been a way to pressure him into getting rid of Coral’s child. Either way, as long as she was willing toe back, he was ready to forgive and ept her.
But disgust flickered through Anneliese’s eyes. She slid her chair back coldly, putting distance between them. “I’m here for my grandmother’s bracelet. You stole it and gave it to Selina. Now, of course, it has to be returned in front of all three of us, so there’s no disputeter. But since you’re here, I have something else to tell you…”
Her gaze cut toward Selina, and the warning in her eyes froze the other woman in ce.
“What is it?”
Selina jumped in quickly. “I’ll call and have the bracelet sent right now.”
Fear gnawed at her that Anneliese might expose everything to Zacharias on the spot. Forcing down her frustration, she made the call without hesitation.
In less than 20 minutes, the bracelet arrived. Selina handed it to Anneliese, but she didn’t take it, motioning for her to set it on the table instead. Selina’s word wasn’t worth a dime, and the bracelet was fragile–Anneliese didn’t trust her not to fake a slip and me it on her.
Grinding her teeth, Selina tamped down the urge to p her and ced the box on the table.
Only then did Anneliese lift the lid. Seeing her grandmother’s bracelet resting intact inside, she examined it carefully, confirming it was genuine before closing the box and slipping it into her bag.
She rose to her feet. Zacharias stood up at once, unwilling to let her go. “Where are you headed? I’ll take you.”
She had ignored his earlier words, and it stung. But he couldn’t bear to waste this chance to be with her. He thought of how she used to orbit around him, and now, even catching a glimpse of her felt like a struggle. His chest felt heavy and tight.
Anneliese cast him a look, and Selina stiffened, panic flickering across her face.
As she passed Selina, Anneliese tilted her head slightly, her voice dropping to a cutting whisper. “Stop running your mouth everywhere and stirring up trouble. If I find out you’re badmouthing me to Jonathan again, I’ll make sure you lose everything.”
Selina’s fingers clenched hard. How did she know?
She had assumed Anneliese only came for the bracelet. She hadn’t expected Jonathan to be in the mix.
The memory of him mocking her for having a foul mouth–loud enough for coworkers to overhear–still burned like fire She had barely worked a single day at AcroAir before the whole office was whispering about it. The shame had nearly made her pass out again.

Her eyes gleamed with spite. “Jonathan’s only ying with you. Do you really think you matter to him?”
Anneliese gave her a cool nce. Looking at Selina’s pitiful disy almost made her want to march straight to Jonathan and marry him out of sheer defiance.
That said, she couldn’t be bothered to trade barbs any longer. Turning back to Zacharias, she asked, “You really want to drive me?”
“Of course, I-”
“Ah!”
Before he could finish, Selina let out a sudden cry of pain. Zacharias turned, startled, to see her clutching her stomach, her face twisted in agony as she swayed unsteadily.
“Selina, what’s wrong?” His brows furrowed as he instinctively caught her arm.
She sagged against him, voice trembling. “It hurts… Zacharias, please, can you take me to the hospital?”
“I… but…” He wanted to refuse, but when he nced back, Anneliese was already walking out of the cafe.
Panic set in. He moved to follow her, but Selina went limp in his arms, her forehead breaking out in a cold sweat. She looked so helpless, so pitiful.
“Alright, don’t panic. I’ll take you right now!” Without another thought, he bent down, scooped her into his arms, and rushed outside.
Anneliese started her car, ncing up just in time to see Zacharias carrying Selina in a frantic rush toward his Bentley. The corner of her lips lifted. Many thanks to Ms. White for her dramatic performance–it made slipping away so much easier.
Zacharias delivered Selina to the hospital. Once she was inside for tests, he lingered in the hallway and tried calling Anneliese. No answer. He texted her on WhatsApp, only to find himself blocked.
Frustration creased his brow, irritation churning inside him. For the first time, he felt a surge of sharp impatience toward Selina.
-He turned to leave, unwilling to wait. But as he reached the elevator, the doors slid open, and Perseus
stepped out at a brisk pace.
