Selina opened the recording app on her phone, set it on the table, and gestured for Anneliese to begin.

Anneliese nced at the screen, then lifted her eyes to Selina. “Huh, you really are greedy, aren’t you?”

“What? You don’t want to record?” Selina tapped her phone, her tone mocking. “You go on about being devoted to your grandmother, iming you treasure her keepsakes most of all. But look at you–willing to let her bracelet shatter just for a little reputation and a man. She spoiled you for nothing while she was alive.”

Perhaps it was because she had received so little love growing up that Anneliese valued the few people who had been kind to her. There weren’t many, and she cherished each one. Gloria was one of them.

Selina knew this and used it as leverage. She wasn’t in a rush, waiting for Anneliese to give in. But instead, Anneliese let out a sharpugh, lowered her head, and slid a photo across the table toward her. “Take a look.”

Selina’s expression faltered the moment her eyesnded on it. She reached out to grab the

That day at the White estate, Anneliese had learned that Selina’s status as Zacharias‘ unattainable love all came from the belief that Selina had once supported him financially, even paying for Melody’s surgery. But the one who had actually made that anonymous payment was Anneliese herself. The photo she had shown Selina was the receipt from back then.

Watching Selina’s face drain of color, Anneliese pressed on. “And don’t forget, your little act of charity wasn’t even selfless. You did it to secure the top student spot at school, so you could get the chance to host foreign guests and polish up your resume.

How do you think Zacharias will feel when he realizes his precious unattainable love was driven more by ambition than kindness?”

The words nearly bled thest bit of color from Selina’s face.

Then Anneliese arched a brow and smiled. “Well, speak of the devil. Should I tell him right

She tilted her chin toward the cafe entrance. Selina’s heart jumped as she turned her head- sure enough, Zacharias had just pushed the door open and was heading straight toward them.

In her panic, Selina almost knocked over her coffee cup. She grit her teeth and hissed, “I’ll have the bracelet sent over right now!”

Anneliese wasn’t surprised by her reaction. She simply lifted her own cup and took a slow sip. The vor wasn’t bad.

Catching Selina’s anxious stare, Anneliese chuckled. “Make the call first.”

This was no longer Selina’s moment to threaten her.

Selina couldn’t afford to let Zacharias see her mask slip. If he discovered the truth, he could easily turn against her. And if he went to the police to revisit the old assault case, she would be in serious trouble. He had covered things up back then, too, making him half an aplice, but Selina couldn’t risk it.

“Anne! You finally reached out to me!” Zacharias hurried up to them, his eyes lighting up joy when theynded on Anneliese.

Half an hour earlier, she texted him, asking to meet, and he dropped everything instantly.

    “Zach…” Selina began softly.

Only then did he nce at her, surprise flickering in his eyes. “Selina? You’re here too?” Selina nearly choked. What am I, a live–size statue? How could he not notice me even for a second?!

She forced herself to swallow the bitterness and said, “I’m here to return Anne’s bracelet, and to talk some sense into her. Zach, you even got rid of Coral’s baby for her sake. If Anne knew, she’d be moved–she’d reconsider.”

Zacharias had never told Anneliese about Coral’s abortion. At Selina’s words, his gaze immediately locked onto her. “Anne, Coral’s child is gone. I’ve cut all ties with her. Can’t we start over?”

He had dressed carefully for this meeting: a dark blue checkered suit under a long ck cashmere coat. His refined demeanor, handsome features, and soulful eyes were all carefully presented for her.

As he spoke, he crouched down beside her chair, looking up at her with devotion, and reached out as if to take her hand.
