Anneliese puffed out her cheeks. “Exactly. You’re way too rich. People can thank you all they want, but they’ll never figure out how to please you.”

Her voice softened into something teasing, light but a little yful, like she wasn’t trying to flirt but couldn’t help it.

Jonathan felt a stir deep in his chest, like a feather brushing against him. She stood right inside his personal space, close enough that he could reach her if he wanted.

    The temptation nearly broke him.

Holding himself back was almost unbearable.

His eyes lingered on her flushed, glowing face.

His hand lifted on its own, slow and careful, as if he was giving her every chance to

    step away.

Anneliese’s breath caught as his fingers drifted closer. She didn’t know what he was about to do, but her body stayed rooted in ce.

She inhaled the clean, woodsy scent clinging to him, her chin tipping upward, shes trembling like dark wings of a raven.

Jonathan studied her expression. She looked startled, maybe even nervous, but she didn’t move.

That had to mean she trusted him.

The thought softened him. He couldn’t bring himself to break that trust.

He reminded himself that soon she would be free again. She would be single again.

    He only needed patience.

If he pushed her now, he might lose herpletely, and winning her back would be impossible.

So, instead of pulling her close, running his fingers through her hair, or lowering his mouth to hers, Jonathan shoved the impulse deep down and buried it beneath his willpower.

In the end, he only pinched her cheek, smiling faintly as he murmured, “There’s a crease here.”

He pulled back, but the feel of her warm, soft skin lingered on his fingertips, sparking an addictive sensation that refused to fade.

“Really?” Anneliese quickly rubbed at the spot he had touched.

Her mind shed back to when Jessica had dragged her across the cabin’s oversized bed earlier, ughing and rolling around. She guessed that must have been where the crease came from.

Her blush deepened, pink turning to a vivid red, though she wasn’t sure if it came from embarrassment or from Jonathan’s touch.

On her wless skin, the color only made her more striking.

Still, she ducked her head, clearly rattled.

Jonathan steered the moment away. “If you can’t think of a way to thank me, then let me decide.”

“Huh?” She lifted her head again.

He raised a brow. “I don’t have anything in mind yet. But when I do, when there’s something I want from you, I’ll let you know.”

That sounded much easier to her. Relief washed over her, and she nodded quickly.

“Alright. I’ll never turn you down. So… since Jess is waiting, I should get going?”

Jonathan asked, “Is it a hassle? Do you need help?”

What he really wanted to say was whether Anneliese wanted him to go with her, but he swallowed that,

“No, I can handle it. Jess and another friend areing with me. And don’t you have a meeting?”

    “Yeah.” He nodded.

Just as Anneliese waved and turned to leave, Jonathan called her again.

She stopped and nced back, puzzled.

“Wait.” His voice was calm and smooth. He grabbed two umbres from the side and held them out.

“It’s been raining in Riveraton these past few days.”

The trip had been so sudden that she and Jessica hadn’t thought to pack umbres.

She hadn’t expected this small gesture from him. It made her feel guilty, like she was taking advantage of his kindness again.

“You’ll still have one if I take this, right?” she asked, then only picked up a single umbre.

“One’s enough for me. Just make sure you stay dry too.”

She gave it a small swing in her hand and left the cabin with quick, light steps.

Zion walked up and reached for the umbre still in Jonathan’s hand.

“I already set lunch with Mr. Chandlington from the Department of Tourism. You can head out now.”

Last month, Riveraton and AeroAir had signed a big partnership tying flights with travel packages.

Mr. Chandlington–whose full name was Thomson Chandlington–had invited Jonathan to lunch. Jonathan had turned him down before, but now that his schedule had shifted, he asked Zion to arrange it.

    “Got it.”

Jonathan nodded and walked toward the bedroom inside the cabin.

This was his private jet, and he kept spare clothes stored there.

Seeing him go in to change but still carrying the umbre, Zion assumed he had forgotten about it and quickly spoke up.
