After all, she was the baby’s aunt. Her brother had more than enough money now, so raising a child born out of wedlock was not even an issue.
“Be quiet. Don’t insult your sister–inw like that. Lenora, you’re beingpletely unreasonable right now.”
Zacharias lifted his hand in anger.
Lenora tilted her chin upward with stubborn defiance, refusing to flinch..
In the end, he could not bring himself to strike her. His hand froze in the air, his fingers curling into a tight fist.
They had grown up with a useless father, and through those years Lenora had always leaned on him. He had once shielded her with his own body. The three of them–mother, son, and daughter–had survived only by holding onto one another.
Seeing him hesitate made Lenora bolder. Her voice rose, sharp and grating.
“Anneliese is a filthy slut. She’s cheap, she’s shameless, she-”
His palm finally connected with her face.
She clutched her cheek, eyes widening in disbelief as she red at him.
“You hit me? For Anneliese? For that filthy, disgusting woman?”
Her voice broke apart, caught betweenughter and tears.
“That bruise on your face–it came from her, didn’t it? She pped you, and now you take it out on me. What a joke,”
Tears slid down as sheughed through the pain. Then she pulled out her phone with trembling hands.
“Open your eyes, Zach. Anneliese went after the man I loved. She has been

cheating on you for who knows how long. Tell me, did I say anything wrong about
her?<b>” </b>
She shoved the phone against his chest. On the screen were photos–Anneliese with Jackson. The boyish man looked polished and bright, like sunlight given form. His gaze on Anneliese was open, intent, and filled with unmistakable affection.
The sight burned Zacharias‘ eyes. With quick taps, he erased every photo, deleting all of them from the phone.
It was as if by removing them, none of it had ever existed.
He tossed the phone back at her and stared at her reddened cheek. Guilt tightened his chest. He pulled out a bank card and held it out.
“I won’t cut your allowance this month. Take this card too. Go shop with your friends or take a trip if you want. Just stay out of my business, and stop harassing your sister–inw.
“I haven’t forgotten about Mom. I’ll bring her home in a few days. The arrangements are already made. She won’t suffer there.”
He reached to ruffle her hair, but she jerked away from his touch.
He sighed, then turned and walked out.
The moment he stepped into the hall, he told two guards, “Keep watch on Lenora. She will likely try to find Coral. Track her.”
Coral had fled in a hurry, which meant she did not have much money.
The card in Lenora’s hand had plenty. If she could not spend it all, she would probably hand it to Coral.
The guards nodded. Jackie stepped forward.
“Mr. Shaw, let me treat your face.”

He passed an ice pack to him, his voice low with sympathy.
This was already the second time Zacharias had been struck. Jackie never imagined Anneliese had that kind of fire in her.

“Find out where Anneliese went,” Zacharias said coldly, pressing the ice pack against his bruised cheek.
Jackie hesitated.
Truthfully, he thought his boss had lost his mind. The more Anneliese hit him, the more fixated he became.
“She isn’t answering her phone, and her movements are unpredictable…”
Where was he supposed to even begin? In the past, Anneliese had only gone to the Sunrise Residence or uderias Tech. Her whole life had revolved around
Zacharias<b>. </b>
But now she had broken away. Jackie realized he knew nothing about her at all.
Zacharias‘ face darkened, his stare cutting and dangerous.
“Then hire a private investigator. I want her tracked every hour of the day. Do you understand?”
Jackie nodded quickly, unsettled.
The scene turns to Riveraton.
The ne touched down through a light curtain of rain. Anneliese barely felt a bump the entire flight.
When she and Jessica reached the door of the cabin, Jonathan was already walking
toward them.
Jessica shed him a huge thumbs–up. “Mr. Fullbuster, that was amazing. You’re
the best.”

She nudged Anneliese’s shoulder. “Right, Annie?”

Anneliese had nned to tease the same way, but the moment she met Jonathan’s steady gaze, her breath caught. A strange tension pressed inside her chest.
Instead, she only smiled faintly and said, “This was the smoothest flight I’ve ever had. It was a real pleasure. Thank you.”
Jonathan stopped in front of them. Jessica released her arm.
“Make sure you thank Mr. Fullbuster properly. I’ll go call Detective Hayes.”
With that, she slipped away, leaving Anneliese standing alone with him.
She could not figure out the right way to thank him. He had everything she once possessed, and everything she never would again.
“Trying to figure out how to thank me?”
Jonathan spoke as if he could read every thought written across her face.
