Chapter 129 Acting
“Selina!”
Shouts erupted across the room.

Perseus grabbed her waist in a firm hold, steadying her instantly. Christopher yanked the knife from her hand and dropped it heavily to the floor, the sound echoing sharply.
“She’s fully recovered. There’s nothing more to fight over!” Christopher’s voice cut with sharp frustration.
He could not bear to see his beloved sister so sad, guilty, and in pain.
Perseus gently settled the struggling Selina back onto the couch, his brow deeply furrowed.
“Yes, we are family. There is no reason to hold grudges. And though Selina did get those thugs, she regretted it immediately.
“That same night, she sent messages to stop them. Either the gang leader ignored the messages or acted recklessly.
“Selina only wanted to scare Anne a little. If Anne hadn’t overreacted, it would never have escted like that.”
Selina pressed her pale lips against Perseus‘ chest, shaking her head.
“Perseus, stop. It was my fault from the start. All my fault!”
Timothy and Mnie looked on with pained expressions.
Zacharias rubbed his forehead. “Timothy, Mnie, let’s drop this. Mnie’s birthday ising up. We can apologize to Anne together and smooth things over
then.”
“It’s her own mother’s birthday. She shoulde back and be the subservient daughter she should be, not steal the spotlight and be the main character. This is

He remembered Anneliese had gifted Mnie a housest year for her birthday, thinking there was no reason to give Anneliese extra credit.
Outside the White family and Zacharias, what influence did Anneliese really have?
She had to care for some old bat in Baytree. Survival alone was difficult, and Anneliese knew it.
That was why she oftenpeted with Selina while still trying to gain their favor.
Now she was preparing a house, clearly to outshine Selina on her birthday, take the spotlight, and earn their approval.
“Enough. It was our fault. We will apologize together and move on,” Timothy said firmly.
Four years had passed, and revisiting this old issue irritated him.
But Anneliese was now Zacharias‘ wife.
Zacharias had a bright future ahead.
Their rtionship needed careful maintenance. At the very least, they must not let it deteriorate any further.
Anneliese was easy to appease, and a simple joint apology would likely resolve everything.
Over at Maple Bay.
“Wow, look at this. Last year, a simr cloisonné jewelry box was sold at a Harborview auction. It didn’t even have the extra gems, and it went for $880,000. This one will cost even more. Man, Jonathan is generous with money.” ___G
Compared to Zacharias, this was on another level.

Several million already spent on jewelry, and they’d barely made any progress just
yet.
Zacharias? The b*stard manipted Anneliese into sharing a basement with him and got her to work as his unpaid assistant.
Jessica’s anger red, and she quickly gulped water to calm herself.
“Do you think Jonathan likes me?” Anneliese asked suddenly.
“Pfft!” Jessica nearly spat water from surprise.
Anneliese handed her a tissue. “Are you okay?”
Jessica wiped her mouth, ughing. “Anne, sometimes I wonder how your head works.”
She can always blurt out something so surprising, she thought.
Anneliese blushed faintly.
“Are you serious?” Jessica asked, grinning.
Anneliese gave her a sharp look.
“I am serious. I would not joke about this.”
It sounded self–absorbed, but Jonathan had been exceptionally kind to her. She wasn’t blind to it.
Jessica stifled herughter. She noticed that Anneliese’s expression was not shy or yful but troubled and conflicted, as if she faced a serious dilemma.
Jessica thought Jonathan might not be entirely sincere, but this was not the time to judge.
Anneliese had just been hurt by a decade–long rtionship and had not finalized
her divorce.

Any man’s attention now would feel overwhelming. It would feel more like intense pressure than blissful joy.
Patience and careful steps were needed. If Anneliese saw anything too soon, Jessica was certain she would pack up and leave immediately.
Romantic feelings were delicate. The fact that Anneliese asked the question out loud meant she had no feelings for Jonathan just yet.
Jessica said a silent sorry to Jonathan.
She was not necessarily trying to set her friend up with some filthy rich guy, but he was far superior to Zacharias in every way.
Such a man was too exceptional to ignore. It could be worth her friend’s time just to put him on a trial period. If everything went well, he could be the guy she needed all along.
