:..
Soon, a staff member brought over the ruby jewelry set. Jonathan handed it directly to Anneliese.
“This is for me?” Anneliese asked, startled.

Jonathan nodded slightly. “Grandma asked me to thank you on her behalf. And since you helped AeroAir handle that crisis earlier, this is a little overdue thank- you.”
“This is too extravagant…” Anneliese murmured, unsure about this.
Jonathan’s eyes darkened. “AeroAir’s handling of the crisis added at least fifty billion to thepany’s market value. If you hadn’t stepped in when you did, it wouldn’t have gone nearly so smoothly. This is just a small gesture. Don’t overthink it.”
Fifty billion?
Anneliese blinked, convinced, and epted the jewelry.
Later, as she left the table and washed her hands in the restroom, she stared at the jewelry box, lost in thought.
Four million dors. Jonathan called it a “small gift,” and somehow she had convinced herself of that.
Four million dors, and they called it a casual little present.
Good grief, Anneliese. When did you get so gullible? she thought.
“Anne, what are you doing here? Who bought that ruby set for you? Was it you at Table 1? And who was the man with you? How could you do something like this to Zacharias?”
It was Selina.
Anneliese snapped the jewelry box shut and cursed under her breath.

A sharp, old pain red in her stomach, like a wound screaming in anger and betrayal.
“Mind your own business!” Anneliese said coldly, her curt reply cutting through the tension.
Selina frowned. “That’s crude! I’m your sister. I’m a White family heiress. I’m Zach’s friend. No matter which way you look at it, I cannot allow you to do anything that goes against society’s morals.”
She stepped forward, grabbing Anneliese’s wrist with righteous force.
“I don’t care who the man is. You need to stop this now. We’re going to return that jewelry to him and end it cleanly.”
Anneliese yanked her wrist free, scoffing.
“Oh, so right after seeing me, you throw the adultery card at me? Selina, you really know how to twist things. No wonder you and Zacharias get along so well.”
Selina’s long, manicured nails dug into Anneliese’s soft arm as she tugged back.
Anneliese could no longer contain her fury. She swung her hand and pped Selina across the face.
The sharp smack echoed through the restroom.
“How dare you hit me!” Selina eximed, holding her cheek.
Anneliese shook her hand free. “I’ve been dying to do that, and since you presented yourself like a nice little present, I figured it’d be early Christmas for me.”
“Anneliese, you’re asking for it!” Selina hissed, raising her hand to strike back.
Anneliese had already anticipated this. She grabbed Selina’s wrist and spun her forcefully.

He held the jewelry box, having justpleted the process to im the pink diamond.
“Zach, I’m fine…” Selina said, still trembling, leaning against him like a startled bird.
“Your face is swollen! That is not fine! Who hit you?”
“I did. Got a problem with that?”
Zacharias‘ gaze lifted sharply at the familiar, clear voice.
His eyes lit with surprise when he saw Anneliese standing there, elegant in a couture dress with a shawl draped over her arms, radiating poise and grace.
“Honey! What are you doing here?”
Anneliese smiled faintly.
“You sound surprised. Is this some secret meeting ce you two have? I’m not allowed in?”
Zacharias frowned and instinctively moved to push Selina back.
Selina stumbled slightly, pressing closer, voice urgent and worried.
“Zach, don’t be mad at Anne. She didn’t mean to hit me.”
Zacharias steadied Selina and stepped forward. He grabbed Anneliese’s wrist firmly, his voice dropping cold.
“Anne, apologize to Selina right now!”

Anneliese looked at him with a mocking smile.

She wasn’t surprised he would side with Selina. His concern for her had always been shallow; she just hadn’t realized it before.
Her smile turned cool. “I wish I could be an octopus and p both of you eight times at once.”
Her gaze lingered on Selina’s face, full of curiosity.
“By the way, he’s expecting a child with your recement. He’s about to be a father. I wonder how that feels for you–disgusting? Or secretly satisfying? Can you tell me all the details?”
