“You’d fly more than ten hours to attend Selina’s birthday party, but you can’t spare half an hour to drive over and celebrate mine?”
Anneliese’s words cut sharp, leaving Mnie’s face drained of color.
She turned to Timothy beside her. “Tim…”
Timothy finally spoke. “Anne, we’re boarding thest flight today, and the tickets can’t be changed. When we get back, we’ll throw a bted birthday celebration for you.”
“That’s right, we’ll make it up to you. This time, we mean it,” Mnie quickly added.
Anneliese tapped the steering wheel with her finger. “Since when can birthdays be postponed?
“Should I crawl back into your womb so you can give birth to me again?
“Well, you neither raised me nor loved me–so what does it matter?”
Mnie’s breath hitched in her throat, and tears began spilling from her eyes.
“Are you ming me for everything, Anne? How can you speak to me like this? I love you very much…”
Seeing his wife upset, Timothy snatched the phone away, his voice stern.
“Anneliese, your parents gave you life. That doesn’t mean you can nitpick and use us over every little thing!
“We’re boarding in less than forty minutes. Go and get those pastries–you’ll still make it if you hurry. As for the rest, we’ll talk when we get back!”
As the family’s patriarch, Timothy’smanding voice swiftly crushed the guilt that had begun to stir in the others.
In the past, Anneliese respected Timothy deeply. She had always longed for his approval, eager to prove herself.
She’d go out of her way to bring him the best tea, all because he enjoyed brewing a cup each
afternoon.

She massaged his head and covered him with a nket whenever he fell asleep from exhaustion in the study.
She had searched far and wide for the best remedies to ease his troubled sleep.
She wanted to show him she was no less than Selina–that she was a good daughter.

But now, she no longer wished to be trapped in the endless cycle of proving and pleasing.
She grinned. “Alright. But since Zacharias froze my card, I don’t have any cash on me.”
Christopher was aware of this.
He quickly jumped in, saying, “Hold on. I’ll wire you the money right now.”
“Send me two hundred bucks. Thanks.” Anneliese spoke unhurriedly.
Christopher’s anger rose, but Perseus tugged his sleeve.
“Just give it to her. We can’t let Selina down.”
After all, two hundred bucks was hardly something they couldn’t afford.
Besides, Anneliese was still their younger sister.
If that amount could stop her from making a fuss, then so be it.
Mnie pressed as well, “Hurry up and wire it to her!”
Hearing this, Anneliese chuckled to herself.
For Selina, they’d agree to anything. She almost regretted asking for so little.
On the other end, Mnie sounded sweet and gentle as she coaxed, “Anne, Christopher is sending over the money right away. Get yourself a treat, alright?”
Just then, her phone pinged, telling her she had received money from Christopher.
If she didn’t know that they often gave Selina far more pocket money than this, Anneliese might have believed they valued her as well.
“Not to worry, I’ll have the pecan pie and zed donuts delivered soon. I bet Selina will be thrilled,” Anneliese remarked before hanging up.
She pulled over to the side of the road, ced an online order, and had everything sorted

He poked his head inside and called out in a heavy ent, “Who ordered the pecan pie and zed donuts?”
The White family was caught off guard, for they’d been expecting Anneliese to show up.
When no one answered, the delivery guy raised his voice impatiently.
“Which one of you is Selina’spdog? Your order’s here, soe and get it.”
Christopher, who had just risen to his feet, stopped in his tracks.
His face darkened as the other passengers in the lounge looked at him.
He wanted to turn back, but the delivery guy had already zeroed in on him.
Rushing forward, he shoved the bag into Christopher’s hands, then loudly confirmed, “You’re Selina’spdog, right?”
Christopher gave the slightest nod and snatched the bag.
“Get lost!” he muttered through gritted teeth.
The delivery guy wasn’t offended and simply snorted. “What are you acting tough for? You’re just shamelessly sucking up to Selina.”
With that, he bolted out of the lounge.
The stic bag crinkled loudly in Christopher’s grip.
He’d blown two hundred bucks just to make a fool of himself in public.
