Worst Fear 114

    Chapter 114

    Mason

“I got them,” my words are slow. “You too?” She nodded, staring intently at the picture and then zooming in.

“What’s going on?” Marcus asked, directing his question to Lydia, but his eyes remained fixed on me.

A don’t care about his re. What’s more important to me is getting this reporter. “Let’s go talk about this. I’m sure we can fix it.” I said.

    “Lydia, what’s wrong?”

Lydia raised her head, extending the phone towards me. “Something came up earlier regarding the twins.”

“What came up? Are the twins in danger?” Genuine worry flooded Marcus’s eyes. He truly cares for them. But that doesn’t move me; in fact, I am tempted to tell him he has no reason to care so deeply for them anymore. I’m here now.

“No need. Lydia and I can take care of it.” Surely he knows the twins are mine. Marcus furrowed his brow, “Why would you?” He paused as if he had just realised.

“Did you…?” Lydia nodded without allowing him to finish. “I was going to tell you today.” She said, gripping her purse a little too tightly.

Marcus smiled, if he was pissed or disappointed in Lydia, he didn’t show it. “Let’s go.” I grabbed Lydia by the hand. We don’t have another minute to waste.

Marcus held my arm, stopping me from pulling her. “She’lle with me.” He said.

“No. You aren’ting with us. I want to speak to her in private.”

“Don’t worry, you can say anything in Marcus’s presence. I trust him,” I gritted my teeth when she said this. I drew in a deep breath, trying to steady my raging heart.

“Because you trust him doesn’t mean I do too,” I said. “I don’t know him, and right now, I’m suspicious of everyone.” Lignored Marcus’s face and focused on Lydia.

“I’ll call youter. I’m sorry I have to cancel the ns.” our kids are more important, so she would cancel her ns with Marcus.

We walked towards my car, which was parked at a distance, without speaking.

    Lydia’s POV

Mason walked in front of me and opened the door, I stepped in, muttering thanks under my breath. I watched him walk around and open the

door before sitting behind the steering wheel.

He ignited the engine, one hand wrapped around the steering wheel.

“Oh, thank you.” His voice was soft and warm. As he drove off, I looked to where we had been standing a while ago to see Marcus still

standing in front of his car.

If not because of my twins, I wouldn’t be doing this.

“So, where are we going?” I asked.

    ?????

“We have to meet with the reporter.” He replied. “You found him?”

“Yes. Mr. Hale from KDS news.” He said, and told me all he knows about the man. I am not surprised that he is a ckmailer. I would have questions if he weren’t.

“You arranged a meeting with him?” The rain started to drizzle. The sound of the engine mixed with the thunder that cut through the sky.

“I won’t necessarily say arranged since he has no idea we areing.” He turned to me at that point and held my eyes briefly before

returning them to the road in front of him.

“When did you get the pictures?” He asked, taking a turn and driving into anotherne.

“Before you came. I got just one from the school.” I replied.

“And you were not going to show me?” He sounded disappointed. I should be the one sounding disappointed because it was he who broke his promise.

“Not after your fiancée showed up.”

    “My ex–fiancée.” He corrected.

“I don’t care. She showed up with a photo, too.” I closed my eyes, trying to wipe the image of her in my office out of my head.

I fist my hand at my side, now questioning my decision to let her go without much drama.

We don’t say anything for the rest of the ride. The pitter–patter sound of rain enveloped our silence.

Mason pulled the car to a stop in front of a big ck gate. After a few seconds, the gate opened and he drove in. There was a building at the end of the drivene with an inscription at the top. The closer we got, the clearer the inscription became.

    “Landis Hotel and suit.”

“What are we doing here?” I asked my senses to be heightened. He said we were going to Mr. Hale. How did we end up in a hotel?

“This is where he is currently.” He exined calmly. We didn’t get out of the car; instead, with his hand still on the steering wheel, he began looking around.

“What are you looking for? Aren’t we going in?” I questioned, my eyes fixed on him.

“We will shortly,” He said, straightening and pulling out his phone from his pocket.

He scrolled on it before dialling someone’s number. “Daniel.” The phone was on speaker.

    “Yes, boss.”

“Did you get the requested permission?”

“Yes, boss. Mr. Hale is still in room 56. He haspany now, a youngdy named Martha in her twenties.”

They spoke about other things rted to Mr. Hale before he ended the call.

“Let’s go,” Mason said after we stepped down. He walked over to my side and entwined our hands together. He pulled me forward, hurrying so we wouldn’t get drenched by the rain,

Well, that didn’t stop the front of my clothes from hugging my body and outlining my bra. It had to be the day I wore ace bra, now my titts were pressing against my bra, desperate to be free.

    16:46 Mon, 11 Aug

Thugged myself. Lifting my head, I caught Mason staring at my chest. He swallowed, then suddenly began taking off his jacket. He draped it. around my shoulder.

“I don’t need it.” I said, trying to remove the jacket, “Keep it on. We don’t want you getting a cold.” Reluctantly, I kept it on. The jacket was a bit wet, but not as bad as my dress. It carried his smell.

A man in blue pants and a white top with a name tag pinned on his chest walked towards us with a smile, “You must be Mr. Woods” He bowed slightly, “I’ll take you to Mr. Hale.”

We walked behind him and got into an elevator.

We walked down a hallway after stepping out of the elevator. The man named Thompson stopped in front of a door with the number 56 on it. “This is his room.” We heard distant mutterings and whispers, followed by a girl’sugh.

After he left, Mason and I stood there for a while before he knocked. There was no response at first, and Mason knocked again.

The mummering stopped. “We didn’t call for room service.” A man’s voice responded from inside.

Mason knocked again, harder this time. We heard footsteps, which got clearer with each second. Soon, the door opened, and a blonde man peeped out of the door, standing between the door with most of his body inside the room.

“We didn’t call for…” His eyes widened when he recognised us, and he straightened. He pushed the door forward, trying to close it, but Mason didn’t give him that chance. With one push, the door flung open fully.

The girl screamed and wrapped her naked body with a duvet.

“What.. are you doing here?” The man asked, his voice shaking.

“I’m d you do recognise us. I was beginning to worry about the introduction.” Mason began. “You know why we are here, right?”

He shook his head and stood, “What are you here? I don’t remember inviting you.” He tried to sound bold, but his shaky voice and trembling

hands, which he tried to keep still, gave him away.

When he sent the photos, it was clear he never expected to be confronted. “How did you get those photos? How long have you been stalking

    us?”

“I have no idea what you are talking about, Miss. Alyssa.”

“Oh, but you know my name.”

“Of course, everyone knows you.” He walked to the bed and sat on the edge. The brte moved towards him and wrapped her hand

around him. I almost felt pity for her as she shook while holding him.

    Snap!

I shifted my gaze to Mason, who had his phone up.

Mr. Hale peeled away from thedy immediately. His eyes widened. “What are you doing?” He questioned Mason.

“I think your wife would be pleased to have this.”

Wait what? He has a wife?

Mr. Hale leapt off the bed and was in front of Mason in a heartbeat, “No, please, not my wife.” Mason ignored him and simply tucked the phone in his pocket.

    ??? IV

“Then, are you ready to start speaking?”
