Loose 603

Edward stopped and looked down at me. “I’ve got a n. You call the cops, and I’ll hand the evidence over to the Lynn family’s rivals. The Lynn family will have Isabelle apologize to you, and she’ll be facing jail time.”

“Really?” I couldn’t believe it. I thought Edward would just tell me to suck it up, especially since the Jennings and Lynn families seemed pretty tight.

“Yeah, Isabelle’s way too young to be this vicious. She needs to learn a lesson,” Edward said, then turned to grab a hair dryer.

I sat on the bed with my back to him, legs tucked up. Edward’s fingers moved through my hair, sending an unfamiliar shiver through me.

While he was drying my hair, Edward said, “Don’t get the wrong idea–I’m not some pro. I’ve just been doing this for Nora ever since she was a kid.”

I paused for a second, my cheeks flushing. Honestly, I’d just been wondering how a guy like him could be so good at this–he must have had a ton of practice.

Edward switched gears. “The Lynn Family and the Chambein Family are locked in a fierce power struggle right now. But if you really want to blow the whistle to the Chambeins, the Lynns won’t just stand by and watch. Even if their precious granddaughter screws up, as long as there’s no blood spilled, they won’t think it’s a big deal.”

I blurted out, “Wait, you mean that teahouse where I was—?”

“I’ve already had someone secure the teahouse’s security footage. Rx, the waitress may have run off, but the cameras caught her slipping something into your coffee. She won’t be able to escape this.”

I turned back to Edward. “But how do we prove Isabelle was the one pulling the strings? If we can’t track her down, the evidence just hits a dead end.”

Edward turned off the hair dryer and said in a hushed tone, “I need to step out for a bit. Just stay safe in the hospital and don’t go wandering off. My bodyguards are right outside your door.”

“Where are you going?” I suddenly felt uneasy, and I didn’t know why. But with Edward here, I felt safer.

“I’m going to meet Isabelle and get evidence on tape for you,” Edward said, leaning down to kiss my forehead. “Victoria, I must be losing it. I could’ve been the cure myself, but I still let the doctors take care of you…”

My eyes trembled slightly as I stared at him, stunned,

“But I don’t regret it. I can see you’re starting to depend on me,” Edward said, looking into my eyes as he gave my cheek a gentle squeeze, then turned and walked out.

I felt a rush of heat to my head and fell back onto the bed.

Watching the IV drip down bit by bit, my emotions were all over the ce.

‘Edward actually wants to help me get proof? I never saw thating. I thought, still in disbelief.

I spent a couple hours just lying in my hospital bed, dealing with some work stuff and answering a few calls. Jared shot me a text, asking when I’d be back in Hachester. He told me not to hang around too long–Yvonne’s starting school on the 17th, so I should get back early and help her get her supplies ready.

That one day and night felt like an eternity.

And in that moment, it hit me–I’d made a huge mistake keeping Sophia’s cheating and betrayal from Aiden.

He was the one directly involved. He deserved to know the truth and make his own choices.

Thinking about it, I let out a bitterugh. In my eyes, Aiden was still that little kid who used to tag along behind me. No matter how much he’d grown up, he was still the same boy I used to boss around when I was a teenager.

Maybe that’s just how it is for older sisters. Even when you’re in your fifties or sixties, seeing your little brother still makes you think he’s not quite grown up enough and needs your help.

Edward still hadn’te back, and my heart was in my throat. I kept ncing at the hospital room door.

    Suddenly, my phone rang.

I snatched it up and saw it was an unknown number.

My breathing quickened. After hesitating for a second, I picked up.

A woman’s anguished voice came through the line. “Victoria, it wasn’t Ryan who came looking for you–it was Uncle Ryan. You… you two, what did you do?”

I froze in shock. That was Isabelle’s voice.
