Reservation 80

Liz turned to Hunter. “You don’t need to follow up on Shannon Wilson’s case anymore. She’ll being in the next few days to terminate the contract.”

Hunter frowned, almost unable to believe what he was hearing. “She’s changingwyers? Why?”

Liz had worked tirelessly on Shannon’s case, and the first trial had already wrapped up. The second trial was just around the corner. Why would she suddenly switchwyers now?

“She found someone better. He’s very experienced and has handled a lot of divorce cases.

“I don’t care how good he is. She can’t just do something like this. It’s outrageous. You shouldn’t have agreed to it.”

The thought of how hard Liz had worked for Shannon–always being on call and putting in extra effort—only for her to changewyers at such a critical moment, made Hunter’s anger rise.

“If I don’t agree, she’ll probably refuse to cooperate from here on out. There’s no point holding onto the case just for the sake of it,” Liz replied calmly.

Besides, this wasn’t entirely Shannon’s fault. Zac had probably offered her something she couldn’t refuse, which was why she called to make the switch.

No matter what, Liz still wanted her to win. Knowing Peter’s personality, if they did win, there was no telling how he might retaliate against Shannon and her daughter.

    “Alright,” Hunter muttered.

Seeing that Liz had no intention of pursuing the matter, he had no choice but to drop it. After all, it was her client. He was just an assistant and didn’t have much`say.

“Let’s get back to work,” Liz said, turning to her screen. Her eyes werepletely unreadable.

Meanwhile, in the president’s office at Voyager l’ech, Zac frowned at Chase. “She didn’te to see me today? Not even a phone call?”

Given her personality, the moment she learned a client she was representing had been poached, she should havee storming in to confront him. Why had she stayed so quiet?

Chase nodded. “That’s right, Mr. Lincoln… you and Ms. Smith have already broken up. There’s no need to…”

Under Zac’s cold stare, Chase’s voice trailed off until the room fell silent.

    Zac’s

was icy. “If she refuses to give in, put pressure on herw firm. I want to see how long it takes before shees to me.”

    Chase nodded reluctantly. “Alright. Understood.

He walked out with a troubled look and let out a sigh. He truly didn’t understand. Before they broke up, Zac had wanted nothing more than for Liz to leave on her own. Now that she had, he refused to let

go.

People say women are hard to read, but in his opinion, Zac’s heart was even harder to figure out. If he didn’t like Liz, why wouldn’t he break up with her? If he did like her, who would treat the person they liked this way?

Back in the office, Zac picked up a file, intending to work, but he couldn’t focus on a single word. She should havee to confront him, yet she hadn’t.

Could she have meant it when she said she wanted to break up?

He thought back to Jane’s birthday party a few days ago, when Liz had chosen to endure humiliation rather than ask him for help. His fingers tightened on the edge of the file until his knuckles turned pale.

A vague, unsettling panic began to rise in his chest.

All this time, he had assumed she was only pretending indifferent, all as a way to force him topromise.
