Liz looked at him with apletely nk expression.

Zac met her calm, unreadable eyes and felt a strange, heavy feeling building in his chest. It was like something was slipping away from him, something he couldn’t hold onto no

matter how tightly he tried to grasp it.

His expression shifted. His hand, resting on the desk, slowly curled into a fist.

Liz didn’t notice the change. Even if she had, she wouldn’t have cared.

“If that’s really how you feel,” she said coolly, “then let me make one thing clear. Zac Lincoln, even if I picked a random guy off the street to marry, I still wouldn’te back to you.”

    “Liz!”

Zac’s face darkened instantly. His eyes locked onto hers like daggers.

‘Say that one more time. I dare you.”

“If you enjoy hearing it so much, I can record it for you. That way, you can y it on repeat every single day.”

The words had barely left her mouth when a teacup came flying at her feet and shattered with a loud crack.

Hot tea sshed onto her leg. A sharp sting hit her skin. She gritted her teeth and looked down to see a dark, wet patch spreading across her pants.

Zac’s voice came crashing through the silence. Get out.” 1

Fighting through the pain, Liz lifted her head and stared straight at him. Her voice was calm and cold.

“I gave you eight years of my life. I don’t regret it. I had hoped we could part ways with some dignity. But if you’re hell–bent on destroying even that, be my guest.”

She turned and walked away without looking back.

Zac stood frozen, staring at her retreating figure. His face had gone pale, and the air in the room felt like it had turned to ice.

A few minutester, Xena stepped into the office carrying a stack of documents. She stopped short when she saw the broken teacup scattered on the floor and caught sight of Zac’s expression. Her eyes flickered with unease as she quickly set the documents down and bent to clean up the mess.

“Mr. Lincoln, these are the files that need your signature today.”

    “Get out.”

    “Mr. Lincoln…”

    “Did you not hear me?”

When Zac looked at her, his eyes were cold and distant. Xena instinctively bit her lip and lowered her head. Without another word, she turned and left the office.

Back at her desk, she stared at theputer screen. Her expression slowly shifted, bing colder by the second.

She had worked too hard to get close to Zac. There was no way she would let anyonee between them. Not now. Not ever.

She opened her phone, scrolled through her encrypted chat app, and found the private investigator she had used before.

“I want theplete case history of every client Liz Smith has ever represented in court. If you can get it to me within twenty–four hours, I’ll pay forty grand.”

The reply came quickly: “Got it.”

Xena smirked, deleted the chat, and set her phone aside. Then she went back to work like nothing had happened.

Meanwhile, Hunter had been waiting by the curb for more than thirty minutes. When he finally spotted Liz walking out of the building, he rushed up to meet her.

“Liz, how did it go? Did you manage to settle everything?”

She looked at him and gave a calm reply. “More or less. Let’s head back.”

He studied her face and frowned. “Then why do you still look upset?”

    “Do I?”

“Yeah. Normally, the corners of your eyes lift a little when you’re in a good mood. But when something’s bothering you, they drop like now.”

Liz blinked, caught off guard. She hadn’t expected him to notice something so subtle.

    “You’d make a good </bwyer.”

A goodwyer needed more than just legal knowledge. They had to be observant, able to catch details most people overlooked. Sometimes clients didn’t tell the full truth. If thewyer couldn’t pick up on those signs whether in tone, bodynguage, or silence–it could mean the difference between winning and losing a case.

“Thanks for thepliment. Will youe with me to a ce?”

Liz raised an eyebrow. “Where to?”

    “You’ll find out.”

“You’re being mysterious. Don’t tell me you’re nning to sell me off.”

“I wouldn’t dare. If you turned around and used me of human trafficking, I’d never live it down.”

Sheughed, finally letting a smile break through. “Alright. Let’s go.

They got into the car, and Hunter pulled away from the curb.

About thirty minutester, the car came to a stop in front of an amusement park.

“We’re here,” he said. “Come on, let’s get out.

Liz stepped out and looked around, clearly surprised. “This is where you wanted toe?”

    “Yeah.”

“Isn’t this ce for little kids? How old are you again?”

“Who says amusement parks are just for kids? There are a ton of rides made for adults too. Don’t tell me you’ve never been to one before?
