Even though Jayson didn’t sound or appear angry or bitter, Ariel could tell he was still affected by certain
emotions.
Not everyone could let go of the pain of losing a child so easily, including herself.
Ariel straightened her back and fixed her gaze on him. “Did youe here because you have something to say
to me?”
Jayson lowered his eyes. “Do you trust me?”
“Are you worried I’ll doubt you?” Ariel asked instead.
Jayson looked straight into her eyes and gave a faint smile. “I hope not.
“Of course I won’t,” Ariel replied unhesitatingly. “The great Mr. Larkin isn’t such a vicious or narrow–minded
person anyway.”
Jayson chuckled softly. “It seems you hold me in high regard.”
The truth was, he wasn’t always much of a gentleman–especially when it came to Ariel. He could be very
particr about certain things, yet he was also willing to yield if it was something she truly wanted.
Ignoring his slightly mocking tone, Ariel said, “I heard you already submitted some evidence. Will it be enough to prove yourpany hasn’t done anything wrong?”
“You received the news quickly. No, perhaps I should say Samson receives his news very quickly.”
Jayson’s eyes narrowed. Even in the face of imminent danger, he never seemed to lose hisposure.
Tilting his head, he said in a lighthearted tone, “Well, it’s not like you don’t have any backup ns yourself.”
Ariel nced at him in surprise, wondering if Jayson had some sort of built–in radar for detecting these things.
He didn’t really need an answer. His calm words carried a sense of reassurance.
“I have some materials, but I haven’t submitted them yet. I’ve informed the higher–ups there’s no problem
with them, and I can prove it. I was hoping to present my evidence along with whatever you have.”
At times like this, Ariel couldn’t help but be impressed by how smart and far–sighted he was. It felt as though
no one could hide any secrets from him.

“Do you see it now? We’re both the targets this time. We need to work together to get through this.” Jayson straightened and nced toward the residential area’s cast entrance. That was where Ariel had gone to grab
coffee just now.
“Or maybe you could use this chance to bring me down. You resent me very much, don’t you?” Ariel turned and
walked toward her building.
Jayson shot her a sidelong nce. “Instead of doing that, I might as well abduct you and keep you confined at my ce. Once you give me another child, we’ll call it even.”
Ariel nearly stumbled. She was speechless.
Even though he wasn’t entirely wrong, his words were far too crude.
Jayson had never been one to resort to underhanded tactics. People already struggled to beat him when he fought cleanly. He had no use for cheap, dirty tricks.
Before Ariel could step into her building, Jayson received a call from Shane.
“I’m staying at Larkin Manor for a few days to keep Grandmapany. We had a batch of fresh crabs flown in today. Grandma says Ari loves them. I can bring some over to your ce since I’m free.”
Jayson lifted his gaze toward Ariel. He knew she loved seafood.
Betty often had different kinds flown in just for her, still fresh enough to taste their best upon arrival.
“You can have someone else deliver them to us,” Jayson replied.
“It’s alright. I have something to discuss with you anyway.”
Jayson caught up to Ariel in a few long strides and said, “Alright. But Ari and I aren’t staying at the marital home right now. We’re at another ce.”
Ariel turned sharply toward him at those words.
After the call ended, Jayson said, “Shane’s bringing fresh crabs for you. He’ll be here shortly.”
Ariel was opposed to the idea. “I don’t want to receive any guests at my ce.”
“Then, we’ll meet him at my ce instead.”
He stepped into the elevator first.

Ariel felt a little dumbfounded after hearing Shane would being. She had no choice but to trail after Jayson.
She had a hunch the crabs came from Betty, who knew her food preferences well.
When they reached their floor, Jayson said, “Come in. I’ve been living here for quite a while, yet you’ve never
had the chance to visit.”
