The terms had nothing to do with Veyo Solutions. It was all Nancy’s personalmitment.
So now…
Arthur looked at her calmly. “This agreement was signed in your personal capacity, Ms. Stanton. It doesn’t involve Veyo Solutions. You’re required to pay an additional 60 million dors.”
Nancy’s face stiffened. Eventually, the colorpletely drained from it.
She hadpletely forgotten about this personal wager agreement. Even if Veyo Solutions had a new owner, the agreement still applied only to her.
Jayson had never mentioned it before, and she had assumed he wouldn’t hold it against her.
But now, at her lowest point, the wager agreement suddenly resurfaced. It would be thest straw that
breaks the camel’s back.
Nancy looked at Jayson in disbelief. “Jayson, you’re joking, right?”
Jayson, holding a ck umbre, stepped closer and watched her through the gate. His expression was
as calm as always. “If you’ve reviewed it, then go back.”
Her breathing was ragged, and her eyes were red. “Jayson, what’s this supposed to mean?”
He lowered his gaze and stared at her. His eyes held a chill, like the rainy night itself.
Nancy felt her world copse. She staggered forward and clutched the gate railing. “Can we talk? I admit that I shouldn’t have had those thoughts after seeing Mr. Warbrooke. It did put you in a difficult spot, but
we had already… confirmed our rtionship. I gave myself to you that day, Jayson. Don’t joke with me
like this.”
It took them so long to confirm their rtionship. Everything was finally moving in the right direction.
Matt’s and Perry’s attitude toward her didn’t matter. Only Jayson’s did.
She couldn’t ept this.
If Jayson brought up the wager agreement at this crucial moment, it would really crush her.
His gaze on her remained as calm as always, with no hint of difference from the past. “What rtionship?
”
That single question froze Nancy.
As she looked into his eyes, she felt a coldness that seemed to cut straight through her.
Even though Jayson had always looked at her like this, only now did she sense the subtle indifference
that had always been buried deep within him. (1)
“Haven’t you already epted me? You were so passionate with me that night. You like me!”
Nancy stared at Jayson intently, determined to find some excuse to avoid the truth. She already had him. Ariel–that dull, uninteresting woman–was no match for her.
Jayson still carried himself with poise, but beneath thatposurey a coldness etched deep into his bones. “Ms. Stanton, what’s your fling with another man got to do with me?” 2
Nancy’s eyes widened in shock.
“Another man?” Her lips trembled. “It wasn’t you? That’s impossible!”
That night on the cruise ship, he had never explicitly denied it!
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have believed they were already intimate, or that he would divorce Ariel to
marry her.
Jayson looked at her and said coldly, “I don’t recall ever saying I had any romantic feelings for you, let
alone confirming any rtionship.” 1
Nancy couldn’t believe it. Only at this moment did she feel a helpless despair.
Countless times, she had unted herself as his “girlfriend” in front of Ariel. She assumed Jayson had
acknowledged her as such, so except for one mention of marriage, she had never brought it up. 1
She had been confident that Ariel could neverpare to her and that she was clearly the better choice.
But with everything happening now, she couldn’t help recalling all that had happened over this time. A doubt she had long tried to suppress deep in her heart gradually surfaced.
“Arthur, see her out.”
Jayson said nothing more. His expression remained unchanged. It was still the same him, still charming,
yet with a deadly edge.
Nancy stared in disbelief at his tall, imposing back.
Arthur smiled as he looked at her disheveled state. “Ms. Stanton, if you can’t pay thepensation, then please return the house Mr. Larkin bought.” 1
