Chapter 1700

    ?Chapter 1700:

Amon studied her, finding her simultaneously pathetic and absurd. He yed along with a solemn nod. “You’re absolutely right. That’s precisely why I’m here drinking away my pain.”

Alisha found herself without aeback. He did have a point, unfortunately. Still, she noticed he didn’t seem nearly as devastated as she felt. If he were truly heartbroken, he wouldn’t have approached her at all.

After a moment of silence, she stirred the olive in her ss. “What makes her so special? Fine, William thinks she’s better than me — but you too?”

Amon didn’t bother responding. He had already answered that question thoroughly. Besides, Alisha wasn’t really asking him. She was questioning herself.

As the thoughts spiraled, tears began streaming down her face, making her look young and devastatingly fragile. But Amon felt no sympathy watching her cry. If anything, he found it tiresome. Crying women ranked at the very top of his list of things he couldn’t stand.

The entertainment value exhausted, he stood and walked away without a word.

By the time Alisha pulled herself together and wiped her eyes, the stool beside her sat empty. She lifted her head and searched the bar, but the man had vanishedpletely. She hadn’t even gotten his name.

She threw back several more drinks before snatching up her purse and stumbling toward the exit.

From a corner, Amon observed her unsteady departure. He swirled his drink and muttered under his breath, “What a fool.” A woman like that didn’t stand a chance of capturing William’s attention. Though he did find himself wondering how William and Ste were faring these days. His curiosity had been piqued. He drained what remained in his ss and left the bar.

The following morning, Alisha stormed into William’s office at Briggs Group without waiting to be announced. She had spent the entire night awake and seething — with each passing hour, her resentment had intensified, and she had grown increasingly convinced that Ste didn’t deserve William. She would expose Ste’s true nature and force William to see what kind of woman he was wasting his devotion on.

The empty office made her falter momentarily. A heartbeatter, footsteps echoed from the hallway, and William strode through the doorway with his characteristic purposeful gait.

    “Mr. Briggs!”

Alisha stered on a bright smile and stood waiting. The moment William registered her presence, his expression darkened. “Who gave you permission to enter my office?” He distinctly remembered telling her in no uncertain terms that he never wanted to see her again.

Ignoring the impatience and disgust in his tone, Alisha spoke urgently. “I came to warn you that Ste doesn’t deserve your loyalty. She’s seeing other men behind your back!”

William’s voice dropped to arctic temperatures. “Alisha, I specifically warned you about this. Don’t badmouth Ste.”

Alisha lunged forward and grabbed his sleeve. “But I’m telling you the truth! She’s cheating on you! Last night I met a man at a bar who’s involved with her. I swear I’m not making this up!”
