Chapter 1633:
Something like disappointment flickered in her gaze, as though she regretted missing the spectacle firsthand — Ste, oblivious to Marc’s betrayals, desperately clinging to him.
Ste’s tone remained t. “What a disappointment for you, then. If you wanted a front-row seat, you should havee back sooner.” She paused, letting the words settle. “Oh — I almost forgot. Marc dumped you too.”
Haley’s smile wavered for just a heartbeat before snapping back into ce. “That’s all ancient history. I’ve moved on. Men are all the same anyway.” She waved a dismissive hand. “I heard Marc’s in jail now. I guess he finally got what wasing to him.”
Something shifted in Ste’s chest. “What are you really doing back here?”
Haley shrugged, her manner careless. “To see what a joke Marc has be, obviously. Did you think I’d just forgive and forget how he treated me? Knowing he’s rotting in a cell makes me absolutely giddy.”
Coming back just to gloat over Marc’s downfall? Haley had never been the sentimental type — she certainly wouldn’t return for a man who’d tossed her aside. Ste didn’t believe that was her real motivation foring back.
Ste locked eyes with Haley, her voice dropping to a dangerously low pitch. “It seems you haven’tpletely let go of Marc, have you? Otherwise, whether he rots in jail or walks free shouldn’t concern you at all. If you can’t bear the thought, why not use your family’s connections to bail him out?”
The sarcasm cut deep. A sharp pang of memory surfaced in Haley — how she had once thrown herself at her mother’s feet, begging for help to be with Marc. Heat crept up her neck as shame washed over her. Looking back now, she must have beenpletely out of her mind.
She forced a casual shrug and painted on a confident smile. “All right, to be honest, I’m back for business negotiations. The domestic market still has plenty of opportunities.”
Haley paused deliberately, letting her gaze drift over Ste from head to toe, searching for any crack in herposure. “But seeing you like this does make me reflect. I heard things aren’t going well between you and William. What a shame — you two were the envy of everyone back in the day.”

Her words dripped with false sympathy, each syble a calcted probe. But Ste’s expression remained carved from stone, utterly unmoved. “My affairs are none of your concern. You should focus more on your business deals.”
Haley shrugged again, as if the icy dismissal meant nothing to her. Then something seemed to spark in her mind. Her eyes brightened with a predatory gleam as she shifted topics. “You know, it’s been so long since all that drama between us. Maybe we shouldn’t keep holding onto it forever. Who knows — maybe we could even work together someday if the opportunityes up?”
