Chapter 1829:
It showed footage of the two men tampering with Hurley’s thermos, apanied by audio of their hushed conversations.
“Dad, the Wade family told us to raise the poison dose. Why is Hurley still perfectly fine?”
“Rx. I talked to the Wades, and they said this amount is standard — it won’t cause any obvious signs. We’re safe. If Hurley drops too fast, the Jones family will start asking questions.”
“Can we really trust the Wade family? Why not just poison the entire Jones household? What’s the point of only targeting Hurley?”
“This is part of the Wades’ secret scheme. Obviously, they won’t spell everything out for us. As long as we follow their orders, we won’t have to serve the Jones family anymore. We’ll step into the upper circle.”
“Dad, the Wades are ruthless. Can we really rely on them? What if they turn on us and silence us afterward?”
“Do you really think your old man is that foolish? I’ve already kept proof. If they dare betray us and we end up dead, the evidence I’ve prepared will leak out. They won’t walk away clean either.”

“Once this is over, we’ll be the ones on top, and others will be waiting on us. Just thinking about it feels incredible.”
“When it’s all finished, we’ll bring your mother here. She’s suffered all these years, staying with me without any proper title. She’ll finally live infort with us.”
Everyone in the room heard it loud and clear. The voices were unmistakably those of the father and son. They had not only poisoned Hurley — they had also deceived Etta in the cruelest way imaginable.
Etta listened to the recording with tears pouring down her cheeks. The child she had raised with her own two hands had shown not a shred of gratitude. Even after she had arranged everything for him, he had felt no warmth toward her. It really was true that a child who wasn’t your own flesh and blood was nearly impossible to win over.
“The little one I nurtured with these very hands grew up into a thankless serpent. I’ve had a pair of devils camped right under my roof, and I never even saw it. How in the world was I so utterly blind!” Etta broke down, sobs wracking her body as a fresh tide of loathing flooded her chest.
She shot her husband a zing look and demanded, “Where is my real child? Where did you hide him?”
At that, the father and son turned pale as chalk, as though they were already staring straight at their own end.
“Unless you get the Jones family to show us mercy, I’m not saying a word.”
“That’s right! Let us live, and we’ll talk. Otherwise, sit tight and wait to hear that your son is dead!”
The pair clung to theirst scrap of hope, convinced they could frighten her into securing their escape. After all, Etta’s real son was already gone, and they were certain the Jones family would never be able to track him down.
