Chapter 1806

    Chapter 1806:

Too anxious to sit, Alban remained standing. “Just say it already. Don’t drag this out — I have something important to deal with,” he said, restlessness tightening his nerves. Since his family appeared perfectly fine, his worry had quietly shifted toward Gillian.

“Why are you in such a hurry?” Henrik shot him a look.

Alban’s expression darkened as he turned toward the door. “If there’s nothing serious, I’m leaving.”

“Wait — don’t go!” Henrik said quickly. “We heard back from King.”

Alban stopped and turned around. “And?”

Henrik paused, caught slightly off guard by the curtness in Alban’s voice. “King said they can treat your infertility, and gave us one day to decide whether to proceed.” He smiled again as he said it — if Alban could be cured, the Martel bloodline could grow once more.

“Refuse it,” Alban answered without hesitation.

For a woman, bearing children was a gamble with her life. Gillian had already endured that ordeal once, and he would never allow her to face it again. Her life mattered more to him than any desire for additional heirs. Besides, he already had a daughter, and that was enough.

His swift refusal stunned the room. No one had expected him to shut it down so decisively.

After a heavy pause, Henrik spoke again, his expression turning solemn. “Alban, you need to think this through. King is making this offer only once — there will be no second chance. If you let it pass, you will remain infertile for the rest of your life, and no one else can help you.” It was exceedingly rare for King to intervene at all. Letting this opportunity go meant there would be no alternative.

“I am infertile, not without an heir. I have Adide, and she is enough. Everything I have will go into raising her.” Alban met their gazes, his resolve unshakable. “Honestly, I don’t mind the condition. It even spares me the trouble of a vasectomy. So please respect my choice, and let this matter rest.”

Seeing how resolute Alban was, his grandfather and parents exchanged a silent look.

“Are you absolutely certain? You won’t regret thister?” Henrik asked onest time.

“I’m sure. I won’t regret it,” Alban said, his expression set with quiet finality.

Colette spoke up. “I respect whatever you decide, son.”

“I respect it too,” Santos added, drawing his wife close. The two shared a nce and a small smile. As long as Alban was at peace with his choice, nothing else truly mattered to them.

The Martel family had once faced the prospect of having no one to carry on the name — and then Adide hade into their lives. To them, having the little girl was already a profound blessing. They even felt that this new opportunity from King was simply more good fortune she had brought with her.

“If you’re set on turning down the treatment, I’ll inform King right away,” Henrik said.

“Yes. Tell them no,” Alban answered without hesitation.

“Then I respect your choice as well,” Henrik replied.

Alban’s expression softened as he looked around at them. “Thank you for understanding. If we’re done, I’ll be heading out.” A quiet unease had been gnawing at him throughout, and his instincts told him something was wrong with Gillian. She still hadn’t replied to a single message, and the silence felt heavier by the minute.
